Hey,
I just replaced my fuel sending unit after verifying that it was the unit and not the guage. Now the guage only says half full when the tank is full and I can hear the float hitting the side of the tank. It never hit before and I don't know what the problem would be. How would I tell if it is a falty unit? Any ideas as to what it could be.

Honestly, I really would rather push a Ford than drive a Chevy.

the float hitting the tank is a result of no rubber piece on the float . i'm guessing. you will probably need to readjust you ivpr or whatever its called on the back of the inst cluster. that is because it is a different unit you put in. so the voltages may be diffeent from one sending unit to the next this is just a guess though.

Yeah I was just reading that. Any ideas where I could get a new rubber piece for the float? The funny thing is that my old unit didn' t have that peice in it either and it didn't rattle. I know the wiring from the guage to the unit is good because I grouded the power supply and the guage went to full. I will check to make shure the guage is reading the right ohms. If it is I am out of ideas.

Ok thanks fordman, I put my old one back in after I cleaned it up a little and it seems to work a little better but it still wont show full. The new one I got is useless when I hooked it up and moved the arm all the way to where it should show full it only showed half. I did the same with my old one and it will go to 3/4 but no higher. I dont know what would cause this. I guess I will just keep filling it up often untill I figure it out.

Have you tried the local u pull it. I was having the same problem and went to the u-pull it and bought one for $6.00 figured if it did not work six bucks is not a big loss.
