Parking brake removal
I dug through my Chilton's guide, but it was no help.
I need to remove the parking brake assembly in the cab to get to the floor vent behind it. The vent has six screws, and access to two of them are blocked by the parking brake. Why do I need to get to the vent? It won't close all the way because it is partially blocked with 30 years of pine needles and leaves which worked their way into the space between the cab and the engine space.
The brake seems to be held in place three ways -- a nut and screw into the bottom of the dash (easy enough) and then what appears to be two bolts attaching the brake to the front floorboard.
Any ideas?

I do not know if this is what you are looking for when you say ideas but here goes.
I have taken vent assemblies off of a couple of junkyard trucks. You are right in order to get that last screw off you have to pull the bolts. Besides the one in the dash there are two that are on the firewall. You have to access them from the drivers side wheel well. If you take those off you can move it around enought to get to that last screw. It can be a pain if the bolts are rusted on. Reccomend soaking them with liquid wrench or something of the sort a littlle bit before pulling. If that does not work you can pull the cable too. and totally remove the assembly. I have not had to do so though.

It's held to the bottom of the dash with a Phillips-head screw and nut, and then there are two studs on the back of the assembly that extend through the firewall, under the left-side inner fender. Just remove the nuts, and then the parking brake assy can be lowered enough to get it out of the way. (Don't mess with removing the cable.)

I was about to post this exact thread in a few minutes, since today i was working on the truck and wanted to clean the cowl out of leaves.
i am going to repaint the cab and want it fully stripped. and it would be easier to grab leaves
is it a huge pain?
and how do you do it?

The easiest way I've found to remove the cable is to loosen the e-brake enough to get some slack on the end.
Then you can pull the cable out enough for the ball end to slip threw the notched hole in the e-brake assembly...
