Car stereo illumination wire

Does anyone know where to hook up the illumination wire from a car stereo? My Pioneer has this wire but I do not have it hooked up and during the day you cannot see the display. I can only see it lit up at night.

for night time seeing it would be hooked to the blue wire for the dash lights. if it is a day time light you are looking for it should then be hooked to through the ignition switch with your radio power wire. so that it shuts off when the key is shut off. dont hook it to a direct power source it will run down the battery some day.

I hooked it through the radio power wire and I still get no illumination during the day.

thats wierd. maybe you could check the manufactures web site to see if they have any special instrutions for hooking up the back lighting. what brand is it?

It's a Pioneer but it is kinda old. I bought it new back in 1999 for my '83 F100. A month later, that truck went to the auto shop and stayed there until I sold it 4 months later. I installed this in my previous truck and it did the same thing. I think it may just be the unit going bad.

does it have a inline fuse? maybe that went bad. or the lgith bulb that makes the illumination work went bad. that kind of sounds like miight have happened. if its getting power it should work.

I have found that the older units didnt have very good back lighting during the day. i have a older pioneer in my big truck and it has the same prob. Its kinda like some of the cell phones if your outside then you really cant see crap on it.

I went to a local car electronics store and they said it was probably the faceplate. Due to the age of the unit, I am going to replace it. The only downfall to this is that I will also be giving up my 6 disc changer but that's alright. I would rather be able to see my sytem during the day and it will be nice to have a new radio.

i was going to say, it's sounds like my old aiwa unit. the face plate gave out one day and that was it. it had to be turned just right into the sun to see it although it had enough illumination at night to read. i still use that radio every once in a while. i did find a face plate on e-bay, but i let it get away. shipping was more than the buy it now price. you might type the model no. into ebay and see if there is someone selling a faceplate for it.

I'm a Van Halen fan no matter what. I've been waiting for ring tones to be made available for my cell phone and I checked this evening and to my surprise there they were. Downloaded Jump for my ringtone and will be downloading eruption next.

van halen is cool for sure. van hagar was good too. i liked dlr but he wouldnt have been as good as sammy on what he sang. it just wasnt roths type of material.
