slew of questions

Post by 19674x4 »

OK. first my blower fan dont work. i think its in the fuse box becuase everyonce in a while my clearance lights and tach quit working-which i have wired into the fuse box. Another question. can i just run a hot wire from the battery with a inline fuse? i dont see why not as long as its fused. Next. i dont have a left blinker or brake light but i have running lights, when i turn on the right blinker, the left running light turns off. :?

whats going on here?

Did all these problems start happening at the same time? Also, did you do any work on the truck recently that may be the cause?

If these problems just showed up out of the blue and at the same time, I would suspect a bad ground connection somewhere. Losing your ground can make all kinds of strange things happen.

But it could be that its not one problem making all these things happen, so with more details maybe we can work through them one at a time.

Hey Thunderfoot, probably going to need your input on this one!

to test the blower fan disconnect the wire going to it and run a wire direct from the battery and see if it works. if it works then plug it back in. next wiggle the switch as you turn it on. check the wiring to the switch make sure it has a good connection. then you will ahve to test the resistor. make sure there is power getting to the resitor. if it is then see if it has power coming out of it. the lights could be a ground or in the turn signal switch.

Yes, and the fuse should be istalled as close to the power source as possible, (the hot wire at the battery).
This enables the fuse to protect the entire circuit, (blower, switch, as well as the installed wiring).

I also agree with Fordman though...
It's really just as easy to repair what's there.
To pull the heat/defrost controls, and checking for voltage at the switch is a good start.

Sorry I'm late, been working the house and catching back up at work after the holidays
On the left rear light, try a new bulb. The bulbs are dual element, one for the running lights and one for the brake/turn light... Try this first... While your in there replacing the bulb double check the ground connections as bad ground do funny things like you have with the running light going out with the right turn.
Let us know if the bulb replacement does anything.

Yep, the running light turning off with any other light turned on is a good indication of a ground problem. Or should I say, lack of ground...

:?  Ok, unless there are some wires shorted or crossed somewhere you got a bad Ground Problem... Check the Ground Wire from the engine to the cab / firewall and make sure it is making good connection, and that the cable from the battery to the engine block is good as well...
Other then that something is mis-wired or wires shorted together somewhere... These are the bad ones to try to find

like shayne says check for bad grounds. when you do this put eveything back the way it was before you reran the new wires. that way you can elimnate the new stuff as being the problem this time.

Don't overlook the turn signal switch, it can cause the tailights to act pretty weird if it's faulty.
