1972 ford f350 1 ton 360 cid distributor

Post by REID »

there are two wires coming out of the bottom of the distributor which connect to the coil.

the wires on my distributor are badly worn and need to be replaced, can these wires be replaced by taking the distributor apart (without messing everything else up) or do I have to buy a new distributor?

how can i replace these two wires?

thanks

On a points style distrubitor there should only be one wire. Comes off the points, through the distributor, and to the coil. Of course, someone may have put a points eliminator like a pertonix in it which would explain the two wires. Either way you do not have to remove or disassemble the distributor, just pull the cap and work on it from there.

No problem Reid. If you're able to take the cap and rotor off and take a pic or two od the distrubitor looking down for us and we can tell you exactly what you have and the easiest way to replace those wires.

I TOOK IT APART AS YOU SUGGESTED AND FIND THAT SOMEONE HAD INSTALLED A PERTRONIX 1281 I BELIEVE. I HAVE WRITTEN PERTRONIX TO VERIFY PART NUMBER. THIS IS WHY THERE ARE TWO WIRES, BOTH CONNECT TO THE COIL. GOT IT APART OK, THE TWO WIRES WERE REALLY BURNED NEAR THE COIL

i JUST BOUGHT A NEW YELLOW TOP REPO COIL, AM I GOING TO HAVE A PROBLEM USING THE PERTRONIX WITH THIS COIL? SINCE THE PERTRONIX WAS CONNECTED TO THE ORIGINAL COIL IT MIGHT BE THE REASON FOR THE BURNED WIRES.

ANY SUGGESTIONS/ HOPEFULLY I WILL NOT HAVE TO BUY A NEW COIL TOO, BUT WANT TO GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME.

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP
