maxed out.
i put in my f600 panel in 2 sundays ago. everything was fine until this past sunday. i put some carpet up on my fire wall. lookes real nice, but now my gauges sometimes go all the way to the right. i know i have about 3/4 tank of gas but the needle will go past the F. what gives?

All of the gauges or just the gas gauge?
Just a question, but I don't think it would affect all of the gauges, did you use screws or contact cement to hold the carpet in place? If you used screws, could one of them have gone through the body into a wiring harness?

the oil, temp and gas. its not all of the time. on and off. i thouht because i removed the fuse box from the fire wall and put the carpet behind was the prob. i removed the carpet and reinstalled the box but no, still was doing it.

the thing is when i looked at the back it is resesed and the connectors sit in side a little. the box is made of plastic. i would think it would have to be mounted to the metal wall so it would have a ground.

I'm thinking that either the IPVR is going bad or the ground for the back of the gauge cluster is not making good contact for the IPVR to work right...

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

i know what you are talkin about. the thing is i work with aircraft electritions and had one of them check the panel with a multimeter and it checked out fine. i think you are right fordman. either its in the fuse box or the wireharness from the box to the cannon plug.

For what its worth...
A few years back we had some serious electrical problems with an older Fairlane. I put an independent ground wire from the fuse panel to the floor pan and it fixed it.

I have also seen someone that had an underdash a/c system in an old Mustang that told me he'd hit a bump and off it would go. Run down the road, hit a bump and it'd come back on. This guy told me an a/c shop was going to charge him $250.00 to fix the problem. I asked him if I could look at it. He agreed and I looked at it. I removed the a/c fuse (in this case it was in it's own factory fuse holder on the ignition switch terminal on the back of the switch) and the fuse fell out in two pieces.
The fuse had seperated at the glass and was bad, but the ends would make and break contact with the fuse strip inside of the glass when he hit bumps in the road.
He was very happy at my find, and his savings. I didn't charge him a dime for the time. He returned with a nice pocket knife he had bought me about a week later as a thank you for fixing it for him.
Could there be a wire that twisted behind the fuse panel and is crossing with another only at times?
