OT...1990 Ford Bronco doesn't go ding-ding.

Post by derek7871 »

My dad has a 1990 Ford Bronco that has a little problem that's driving him nuts. When you open the door and the keys are in the ingition, it's supposed to go ding-ding-ding. Well, his dinger has broke. Does anyone know if there is a relay somewhere that creates the ding?

its under the dash some where. check for it and check if it has a fuse that it runs off of. there are two fuse boxes on these newer trucks. one is under the hood on the drivers fenderwell.

With the key in the ignition BUT in the off position and the door open the door chime should work. When the unit starts to go bad the chime can and often gets re-e-e-eal weak. Sometimes you can hear the weak chime noise coming from the unit if you listen real close to the dash.

However, the chime should work when the headlights are left on in some vehicles and the door is opened (without the key in the ignition). See if the chime works when the headlights are left on and the door is opened.

If it does then the little brass strip on the ignition cylinder that makes the chime work with the key is left in the ignition might have gotten worn or bent and isn't making contact inside the column key switch.

You also have to keep in mind that many folks find those very irritating, and will remove the 'dinger' or maybe snip a wire going to it. Silence is golden. ;)

I checked with my dad and he said that with the headlights on and door open, it still does not go ding-ding. I assume this means the dinger itself is broken. Someone told me it was under the dash, by the glove box. Anyone know for sure? Remember..1990 Bronco.

i don't know for sure. but i would think it is under the dash on the drivers side. where eer it is. those look like a rectangular gray plastic box. with wires that stop at the little box.

Yes and a lot of those key-in, headlight-on door chimes and buzzers are the same, vehicle to vehicle. Some ring, some chime and some have that irritating buzz.

I found that the '90 Mustang I have has the same chime as the 1993 era Ford Explorers. They are just mounted on different brackets.
