well that could have damaged the housing on the solinoid maybe. the inside of the solinoid is similar to the inside of a gm solinoid it hasa disc with two bolt coming out either side. the disc is electromagnetically drawn up to make contact with both bolts at the same time completing the circut to the starter.

Is this an automatic?
Starting is also routed through the neutral safety switch on the automatics. In your frustration of trying to get it to start the shift selector might have gotten bumped and you may have slightly moved the shift selector out of the Park position.
If you turn the key to the "Start" position and back to on a couple of times see if you can hear the solenoid "CLICK" as it trys to activate the starter.
If not, turn the key to "Start" and move the shift selector up a little more to Park and see what happens.
Starting is also routed through the neutral safety switch on the automatics. In your frustration of trying to get it to start the shift selector might have gotten bumped and you may have slightly moved the shift selector out of the Park position.
If you turn the key to the "Start" position and back to on a couple of times see if you can hear the solenoid "CLICK" as it trys to activate the starter.
If not, turn the key to "Start" and move the shift selector up a little more to Park and see what happens.

Thanks for that info.... its all helping tons.....yea, its an auto..... But my main question is..... does anyone have any idea as to why she would not turn off? Has anyone ever had that happen to them? All I know is it seems like its one thing after another...... Trying not to keep getting discouraged is starting to turn into a full time job! Did you see any warnings on the can of spray as to it being conductive, even though it is a protectant?
My brother used to use "clear" spray paint to protect his battery terminals from corrosion and the elements. I use the little red and green treated felt battery post washers myself.
It seems unusual that the truck wouldn't shut off after you sprayed the solenoid.
It could be cooincidental and the electrical portion of the key switch could have gone bad at the same time you were doing the other work on the truck though.

Is the red wire with the blue stripe on the terminal on the solenoid that is closest to the positive battery cable (battery end)?
If so, do you hear the "click" of the solenoid when you turn the key to "start"?
Did you spray the terminals on the solenoid with the wires off of the terminals on the solenoid?

I dont know about the wire color, I never disconnected the solenoid wire after it was running. I will have to check for that when I get home. As far as the click when I start the key, no a thing. No click, crank...... nothing. But all my lights and stuff work. I sprayed the terminals after they where all connected and the truck was running. SO, I have to get home and in the freezing cold tonight in my driveway check all these good possibilities you all are giving me. If you get the truck started and it won't shut off again look on the coil for the red wire with the small (thin) green stripe on it. That wire should be on the +positive+ connector on the coil. If the wire has the push-on end on it you can simply pull that wire off of the coil (watching out for the radiator fan when the truck is running) and the truck's engine should shut off (no spark when you pull the power to the coil).

If you fried the solenoid when you sprayed it, it won't be applying any power to the starter when you turn the key....so it won't crank. Considering you have power everywhere but the starter, I'm willing to bet that the replacing the solenoid will fix the no-start problem.

Well guys, I cant thank you enough for all the help...... I came home last night at 11pm, it was only 10 degrees here in Utah and I replace the solenoid and used the check light and checked for power at the coil, she started right up afterwards. So I guess my problem was is somehow that battery terminal protectant shorted out my solenoid? So make sure you don't put that stuff on you solenoid terminals! As far as pulling the coil wire off to stop the truck, I wish I knew that....... That gas line was a mess.... I guess I'm too late but...
when I was 16, I changed the battery cables on the 64 Galaxie I was driving (my father's car). When tightening the cable to the solenoid, I didn't hold the "backing" nut on the post with another wrench. I put alot of torque on the nut holding the cable on and spun the threaded post inside the solenoid. I started the car and couldn't turn it off without taking the coil wire loose. A new solenoid solved the problem.
when I was 16, I changed the battery cables on the 64 Galaxie I was driving (my father's car). When tightening the cable to the solenoid, I didn't hold the "backing" nut on the post with another wrench. I put alot of torque on the nut holding the cable on and spun the threaded post inside the solenoid. I started the car and couldn't turn it off without taking the coil wire loose.
