Unknown connector?

Post by 6T7Merc »

Hey everyone.
Im working on a 67 Merc and ive run into some problems wiring my brakes. Ive followed my wires through the brake harness and into the main harness and ive run into connectors that im stumped on what they connect to. One is a blue 2 pin end and the other is a blue 6 pin end.

Ive coloured the connectors in blue on the diagram and the one circled in red is what i need to know. I have an idea that its the steering column but i cant be sure.

Those are for the steering column (goes to the turn signal switch).

If you cut the harness end of the column connector off of the donor truck's under-dash harness you can cut the connectors off of the original column and make an "adapter" harness to connect the new column to the old harness with.

This way you can always go back to an original column some day in the future if you want to using the "plug-n-play" method and you won't have to re-splice everything again.

I thought the pins in the tilt 1978-1979 wiring harnesses were a different size then the Bump harnesses. Are they he same size as the older Bumps?

If I have connectors from a later model Ford attached to something I want to add to an earlier model Ford vehicle I usually remove the harness end of the connector that I am taking with the part from the donor truck to make myself an "adapter" plug to connect it to my older vehicle so I don't end up cutting any wires in my original wiring harness.

I have done this from all the way back in 1980 when I added a factory 1967 Mustang 8K/140 mph tach cluster to my non-tach wired car. I used the harness connectors out of a Cougar XR-7 (that has the tach and uses the same harness plugs) and added them to my Mustang as a "plug-in" addition to the original harness. It worked great!

your right about the pin size. i didnt think of that . when someone says cut the wires i go crazy without thinking about it. the small two wire plug and pins are available at radio shack when i was doing my column after mr wizard cut the wires in the 67 i went and got the connectors and used just the small pins to reattach the wires to the small and large plug. i didnt have the correct plug so i just plugged each wire in indivdually for now. i will find the correct large plug some day and put it in right.
