flasher revisited

Post by 4th effie n counting »

Ok so the other day i noticed my dash lights quit again, no doubt because i was farting around when my wiper switches/motors weren't working.so i was pulling all my fuses, and guess what i found.....or more accurately didn't find. I have no fuse in the spot marked emergency and whatever else is on the same circuit. Also the terminals are pretty cruddy, so is this going to have the same effect as having no hazard switch installed? It seems someone posted in my other thread that i had to have a hazard switch installed for turns to work. Does the hazard switch have to be good or just close the loop for turns to work?
Reading this makes me think this is a rather dumb question. :D
This has been kind of annoying as i have put 2 different switches on never thought to look for a missing fuse.
I know, I know, simplest thing first process of elimination.
PS: still haven't found that pesky 2nd flasher can!

That fuse is for the Emergency Flasher and the Brake lights
If you don't have an Emergency "Flasher" or the "Switch" installed it will not effect the Turn or Brake lights unless something is shorted out where these are.

Well, No... Not from that fuse anyway... However there is another fuse in there for the "Turn Signals - Backup Lights - Washer Pump"
This shows where the fuses are for what... http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... epanel.jpg

This may be where your second flasher is. From what I've read here this is where Ford put it in the Camper Specials.

I had deduced that was the original flasher. however the wires from it are as far as i can tell the ones that i put a new flasher on. The one everyone has at or near the back of cluster is the one i can't find.

Fordman, its not on the firewall, it is on the dash support. Its held in by 2 or 3 screws (can't remember).
In my case the wires that were on there had been moved to a 552 flasher. it was still screwed in but not hooked up. You should have a look to see if yours is still hooked up.
BTW did changing your harness fix it?

yesa nd no. i got everything working . but no wi have no heater hot wire or a radio hot wire which ever way you want to look at it. i used the radio wire for the heater hot but it doesnt work now. the heater wire worked before i swapped harnesses. i just need to swap them back now.

So I was driving to work this morning in the pouring rain, when just for grins i turned on my turn signal. I was very surprised when it started blinking, as i had not yet resolved its issue. when I arrived at work i tried them both, did the walk around, they all work.
My question is, if its because it is raining, where might i look to find the bad ground?
