It would work, but you have to be careful about moisture since metal sweats. I'm actually thinking about building them in and using them as speaker enclosures, but that's way down the road. I've just been spending too much time in and around the cab doing bodywork and noticed whenever I hit something with a knuckle just how noisy it is.

I was thinking about putting some 5" mids in a false floor under the edge of the gas tank to fill that hole. I'm not sure about a tweeter, considered redrilling the dash pad for a little bit, but I'm not to sure how it would turn out.

I was thinking about making floor mats to replace the crappy carpet that the PO(S) installed:
http://www.theonlinecatalog.com/themate ... ARMORSTEP/
Currently, I am using this for noise control:
http://www.protecdirect.co.uk/Disposabl ... urafit.htm
Have any of you guys custom made mats before? I would assume it is hard to get everything to lay down nice and flat, but it would be worth a lot of work to me if I could get it done well. I think the mats in the link would work well because the top layer is made of what looks like recycled tires, and the bottom layer is made of something similar to earplugs.
If anyone knows how to glue these things together and also glue them to the truck I would be really glad to hear their input...

re: Insulation/Sound Proofing
i found 2 5 inch rockford fosgates and made a mount with the same fittings as the orig. dash and they fit perfect. also got a 2 6inch speaker box (roadmaster) and put it under the bench. since i won't be getting in any sound off compititions it sounds just great for cruisin to work or just down the road. also, got an extra radio mount from the p n p and cut it to fit a cd player in the original radio slot. don't worry i did'nt cut the mounts out, just bent them over. ![Thumbs up ](./images/smilies/icon_thumright.gif)

re: Insulation/Sound Proofing
the po had cut holes in the kick panels for speakers. i'm gettin them fixed this weekend so decided to remove the rubber mat i had in the truck. when i pulled it up i was
. it was wet and had developed surface rust on the floor panels. coame to find out if you live in a humid area dont use rubber mats. the metal sweats and the mat will not let it dry out. it's good now dried it and por15 it. will put carpet in it later down the road.

re: Insulation/Sound Proofing
I just used a product called boom mat. I put it in the doors when I did my window felt change. It cost 60.00 bucks to do both doors. It sticks to almost everything. My doors required no surface preparation at all.
I cannot believe the difference!!! Night and day. With out any sound deadening or heat absorbent material at all from the factory, I feel that any of the products made to fix these issues will work well. I did not need too much heat protection for the doors, otherwise might choose a product that has more heat control quality.
Peel and stick has a lot to be said for it, in my opinion.

Well, I just used the roll out stick on stuff from Lowes, and all I can say is I am amazed. I did the entire floor under the rubber, the inside of the doors, and the roof for $45 (and I still have some left) and it is SOOOOO much quieter than it was! It was super easy, and it's just unbelievable what a difference it made, and I don't even have the door panels, headliner, or dashpad in yet! I would say on a road noise scale of 1-10, 10 being my truck before and 1 being a nice new car, it's a 2 or 3. I will never own an old truck again without doing this to it.

re: Insulation/Sound Proofing
i used some left over insulation from when Cleary built my garage. It looks like 2 sheets of bubble wrap glued together one side is aluminum looking and the other side is white its maybe at most a 1/4 inch thick i put some behind the gas tank. THe only thing im starting to worry about is the metal sweating and it not being able to breath I dont want my near perfect cab to rust out. Is it a bad idea to insulate this way? wouldnt this be a problem with the peel and stick stuff as well?? i dont know just would like some more info. I was checking into getting one of the abs headliners to be able to install a Cd player with out taking out the factory radio i just need to find a way to help it breath?? couldnt i just drill some holes in it??
Sorry for so many questions would just kinda like to know

People use sound mat and dynamat all the time, and I've never heard of something rusting out because of it. I would think that, if anything, a properly insulated panel would be less likely to sweat because of the fact that it's insulated. The whole reason condensation occurs is because of a temperature differance between the outside and inside of the panel, which causes moisture from the air to collect on the panel. If the panel doesn't have open air hitting it, that side shouldn't sweat.
Think of ductwork for home heating and cooling. Cold a/c air running through metal duct in an unconditioned space (ie hot attic) will cause major sweating on the outside of the duct, which is why the ductwork is insulated, curing the problem.

That would be the stuff. My local store had it in stock. It ain't quiet as a mouse, but it made a big difference. At 70 mph there is still some noise, but it is a 36 year old truck, so I'm willing to accept that.1971ford wrote:this exact stuff?fomocoguy wrote:Well, I just used the roll out stick on stuff from Lowes, and all I can say is I am amazed.
