Turn Signal Issue
My turn signals aren't working. All lights work including brake and 4-ways. The symptom is: When I depress the brake pedal with the turn signal lever in the left position, that tail light goes out; same with the other side. Does this sound like the turn signal mechanism? Or what? Thanks.

re: Turn Signal Issue
The light going out is normal from the way the turn signal switch in the column works.
Sounds like either the fuse for it blew or your "Flasher" died or came unhooked...
I would check the fuse first, same fuse is for the windshield washer and the back up lights so if they aren't working then it is the fuse.

Fuses are good; backup lights work Flashers are good. I switched flashers (4-way to blinker) to be certain. Not sure I understand what you mean by the light going out being normal. Thanks.

re: Turn Signal Issue
The way the turn signal switch (TSS) works it disconnects the brake light connection inside it to the light you are using for the turn signal and connects it to the flasher. The flasher supplies the power to that light that has been connected now in the TSS.
So, from what you have checked out either the wire from the Flasher to the TSS has come unconnect at the connector on the column, or broke somewhere... maybe in the switch which you may be able to fix it.
Not sure what year your truck is but check the Blue wire with a test light on the wires to the TSS on the column connector with the signal on.

Re: Turn Signal Issue
Hey, John...Long time no talk...Maybe you should try cheering up your brake pedal instead of always depressing it ...I wonder if the problem is in the switch at the brake pedal?...Mine is going bad, and I had to duct tape a spacer between the pedal and the switch so the brake lights didn't stay on when parked...And I noticed when I left my left turn signal on, only the right brake light would stay on and vise-versa...jor wrote:My turn signals aren't working. Jor, Here is the older (on top) and new (below) style TTS connectors on the column. #44 is the Blue wire that comes from the Flasher.

re: Turn Signal Issue
jor,
My vote is on the switch being bad.
Seems like one of my trucks had these symptons before, and it was the switch.

re: Turn Signal Issue
Well, thanks to all.
Thunder, thanks for the schematic. The one I have is the wrong year and shows different colors (haven't checked yours - this truck is a 68, btw).
I'll post when I get this thing figured out.

I don't see any broken or disconnected wires but I'll keep looking.Either the wire from the Flasher to the TSS has come unconnect at the connector on the column, or broke somewhere... maybe in the switch
Pretty cute, Joe. Is a grimace kinda like a smile? The brake light switch is good.cheering up your brake pedal instead of always depressing it Smile ...I wonder if the problem is in the switch at the brake pedal?...
I guess you are referring to the turn signal switch itself. That's what I'm thinking too but more checking first. My vote is on the switch being bad.
