New steering wheel suggestions wanted....

Post by kaptnkaos »

Hey Guys...

Anyone have any suggestions on a replacement steering wheel for my '68 CS project...
I have looked at a few Grant wheels and really don't care from them...
Most of them look too modern or sports car styling.
I want something with olde skool classic styling like the Grant 838
3 spoke with 3 holes in each spoke, with black cusioned grip...
I like that style, but am not limited to it...
I'd like the size to be between 13.5 to 15 inch diameter...
Pics would be great especially with brand names and style numbers if you know them...

Thanks Again,
KaptnKA 8) S

I like the 15" over the 13.5... They just feal better to me :2cents:

I had a 13.5 in my Mustang for a while and my new Highboy has one in it and you end up hitting the turn signal lever as they are about the same radius from the column...
Here are the Grant 15" ones listed in Summit, http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch ... 4294787075 I put the 1760 in my 68 mustang and really like it.

I'm not "Brand Loyal" Ford-Chevy-Dodge-Toyota I have them all, one even cross mixed...
If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

I put this one on the '69 CS - it's off a late '70s Mustang or Bronco I think. I like it cuz it has the Ford logo, and is genuine FoMoCo product, and mounts up nice.

I have ran the Superior wood rimmed 15" on a couple trucks and liked it. The rim is a little fatter. They have got kind of expensive tho.
Personally I like my original 3 spoke with a leather wrap about as good as any.

I like the look of these too.

I went through the decision process for my Flareside & came up with this 15" Grant. Inexpensive, tough and fits the bill for these trucks. Its got a shallower dish than the stock wheel, so it gives you a little more distance and the smaller than stock radius makes steering a little more responsive.

I have Grant 838.

Here's a sorry pic of how it looks in my truck. I used it for 10 years with NO power steering  The best thing about it is the clearance I get between the wheel and my thighs. It has a horn button that actually works. You can get a Ford logo horn button for this wheel but I think it runs something like $85.

I like the style of the Grant 838, but the largest size is a 13.5 with a 3.5 inch dish.

The one Mugwump has on his '69 is the same one that I had on the '71:
it is a 14.5 inch with a 6.5 inch dish...
I have that wheel, but not the the horn button and stuff for it.
I am trying to match it for size with a 14-15 inch diameter wheel...
I can put it on temporarily if I need to, but I really wanna have my horn work.
One of my biggest complaints is that the hub is about an inch larger than the the column, so it sticks out half an inch all the way around...
you don't notice it so much with an auto column because you have the shifter and the indicator, but with the floor shifter, it sticks out like a sore thumb.
I love the looks of our standard wheel, but unfortunately, it only came in one size... skinny

Be aware some of the lower priced grant wheels don't have a horn button option.

Yeah Peanutman...

The package deal for the 13.5 inch Grant 838 / Horn kit / Adaptor kit comes to right at $74.00
Image

The Grant 14.75 inch 832 looks almost like the grant 838 without the holes
Image
The package deal on the 832 comes to about $111.
I'm really leaning toward this one because of the extra 1.25 inch diameter
width... and the fact that it is just a little differant, but still has that olde skool styling...
