OEM NOS Floor rubber

So, I just installed an OEM floor covering that my buddies dad had, new in the box, since 1993 or so. It looks good, but does anyone know any tricks to getting it to lay down in place and not be so stiff? I think the pic should speak for itself.

That looks pretty good, you might try a heat gun or hair dryer to soften and draw up the rubber....
Maybe it's like old skool Levi's 501's "shrink to fit"...

id try some heat. when i pulled the house carpet out of my 72 my rubber mat has a Bombardier logo on it it has the gear wheel with a lightning bolt through it

I think mine had the same thing. Maybe someone can check and see if my mat is the right one! The part number is D4TZ 5013010A. I just assumed they did away with it when they made replacement mats.

Tried a heat gun to no avail, I'm thinking of putting an electric heater in the cab and letting it bake for a few hours, but it makes me a tad nervous

Space heater didn't work, so I guess I'm just gonna let it go and see if it eventually settles down. Honestly I'd rather have carpet anyway, so when I can afford it that's what I'll do.

Does anyone know I good place I can look up the part number and be sure it's the correct mat?

i know the lightning bolt used to be on the ford mats. maybe they kept that design when they made it in 74.

Use a steamer like the ones you see on home shopping club.. it puts just enough steam to relax the carpet.. then when your done.. leave a space heater in there over night.. as long as you dont have gas fumes.. and it should dry out any leftover mosture.. thats how I did it in my 69 scout.

i finally got the pic up. did the mat have a jute backing under it. maybe that is why it seems to fit loose if the jute is not in place.

No, it didn't have the jute backing. I'm really beginning to wonder if it is the wrong mat, maybe for 73 and up, seems how the part number starts with D4TZ, which would tell me that it was ceated in 1974.

I don't have carpet though; it's just the standard rubber floor.

oh i know. the 73 and up trucks all have the hihg hump floors. does your truck have a removeable center hump? if not then you have a low hump floor pan and the mat will probably never fit right. if you do have the high hump then maybe you need the jute to make is fill out.

I've got the low hump floor, but it doesn't seem to have excess material in that area, it just won't lay down into the corners. I think it's just gonna take some time for it to settle.
