Today I tested my alternator and at idle it charges at 14 volts
but when I rev the engine it goes up over 17 almost 18 volts
I'm pretty sure if I run it like that the battery will boil, so after looking around a bit I noticed that
one wire went nowhere from the voltage regulator, I took some pics and this is as clear as it gets
there are 2 yellow wires and one is not connected, is it supposed to be?
I was thinking it was the sensing wire maybe?
Or is the reg hooped?
Thanks for looking guys

re: Voltage Reg wires
Thanks fordman, I wonder what the extra wire is for?
Maybe I should convert it to a newer internal reg set up.

that wire goes to what looks like a condenser

re: Voltage Reg wires
dunno my only voltmeter is on the frits and how would i check it if i got it to work?
i know that my fuel tank only reads 3/4 full when its topped off and my coolent sender doesnt work barley
Dunno but that thing looks original its just as dirty as the rest of the under hood area.
Would this thing be causing a problem of some sort??

re: Voltage Reg wires
That is condensor/capacitor is only used for noise supression. That way you don't hear a whine through your radio when you accelerate. If your alternator is over charging and everything looks to be hooked up, than I would volt drop all of the wires to check for too much resistance and if that checked out good than just get a new voltage regulator.
