Gauges dead except fuel gauge

Post by Chaseman »

Gauges dead except fuel gauge , what should I check first to fix it? Is there some relay that maybe died or maybe the connector simply is coming loose and also if it sounds like I'm trying to fix something without looking at it , is cause I am. because when I got my truck a week ago we had it sent straight to the shop and it's still there cause the they got the wrong cable then when they got the right one it was at the end of a friday .(they don't work on weekends) cause for some reason it's not exactly legal to drive with non working speedo but, anyway I'm making a list in my mind for things to fix and how when I finally get my truck back.

For the temp gauge remove the wire from the temp sensor (under the hood) and ground it. Turn your ignition to the on position. If the gauges rises to the Hot side then gauge and wiring are good, replace the sensor.
Sensor is on the front of the intake manifold near the distributor.

Exact same procedure for the oil pressure gauge.
Oil pressure sending unit (sensor) is located on the oil filter mount on the L/S of the engine in front.

Amp gauge more than likely works, they just don't hardly move at all in older Fords. Use a volt gauge to check charging system output.
