88 bench seat question???

Post by kaptnkaos »

Hey Guys,

Has anyone installed the bench seat from a '88 or '89 pickup in their bump?

I was lookin' at the pics on the the tech info pages and they look pretty good.

I am curious about the fit...
I'm pretty sure they are direct bolt ins, but do they take up more space than standard bump bench seats.
I found some that look pretty decent and want to know 'cause I'm a pretty round kinda guy and interior space between the seat and the wheel is pretty limited as is...

Thanks again,
KaptnKA 8) S

Yeah 69F110,

I did check it out...
It shows the seat in the original truck not in a bump...
The seat I'm lookin' at looks exactly like the one in the pic of the '89.

Here is what I did for the 94 that I put in.

the 88 would have the same tracks.

width is the same as stock. If you line up the holes like I did then the front-back movement is the same as well.

Coincidentally, I picked up a 90 Bronco and am thinking of switching my bench seat for the buckets in the bronco and the center console.

I wanted to make a custom center console with 6X9 speakers built in at an angle (one facing the driver and one facing the passenger) with the stereo inside of it and the original am in the dash.

I got the wood to do it, just never have cut it out and put it together...even got the speakers.

Hey wt4speed#2

This is the seat I'm thinkin' about gettin' for $100

Image

It looks to be in pretty good shape, I'm waitin' for the guy to get home so I can make arrangements to at look at it.

Looking at yer original post, it looks like a pretty simple swap.
Does it sit tha same as our orginal seats...
I'm a little worried that the extra paddin'...
will it 'cause my xtra paddin' top get in the way of the steerin' wheel???
Do you have a pic of the newer seat in yer bump?

you can see that there is the same amount of room to the wheel. This pic is also with it all the way back.

I say go for it, you will like it.

I used to have one some place Kap(haven't seen it lately) , i think you'll be ok . Will this seat be going under the new steering wheel, if so you'll be fine.
Edit: 100 bucks nice score.
pm on it's way

Hey Kap'n,

I put the seat from my '83 into my '72. The '83 seat was almost exactly the same, I just mounted the seat rails and sliders from my original '72 seat onto the bottom of the '83 seat. I had to drill out the holes as I recall that the '83 brackets were threaded and had to be drilled out for a larger diameter. But seriously it took me about 20 minutes to do the whole swap. The best thing for me is that it doesn't look out of place like some of the later seats - no headrests, cup holders, synthetic fabric or any of that new stuff.

Thanks for all the input guys...

I'm still stying to get a hold of the guy...
He has not answered his phone or returned my calls, so I'm not sure what's up...
Oh well, if this don't work out there will be others.
I still have a nice set of charcoal grey Pontiac GrandAm buckets that I might use...
I'll let ya all know what ever comes of this deal.
