How many have had luck with used wiring harness'

Post by JWW »

Just curious how many of you guys have used wiring harness' from donor or salvage yard trucks? I don't have the money to fork over for a new harness. I can probably redo some of my wiring. Wanted some feedback from those who have had luck, or other alternatives. Thanks

i took the wiring harness out of a 69 and put it into a 67 until i just now finally got another 67 harness. the harness i put in was in uncut condition so it worked fine.

As long as it looks unmolested and the last 6 or 7 po's haven't turned it into a tangled rat's nest i'd have no problem with it.

Bear in mind that if you use tha harness from a '70 to '72, the connector going to the instrument cluster won't work with yours. The '67 thru '69 will work ok, though. There is a tech article with pictures showing the differences on this site.

thats right. you really want to try and find a 67 harness if you are going to go the used route. the reason is because of the ignition switch and the heater power wire. i had to use the radio power wire for my heater switch and i had to put a 69 ignition switch in instead of the 67 switch.

Noted guys. I appreciate the feedback. The wiring in the dash looks pretty good. The wiring coming from the firewall is what I would like to redo.

You're after the under the hood stuff for a '67? I may still have that, I'll have to check on what shape it's in.

Yes, and be sure you use a harness for full gauges or half gauges if that is what you have in your truck. To the best of my knowledge the harnesses are different if you have full instrumentation versus having a vehicle with the OIL and ALT lights in the instrument panel.

Check with the others about this because I know the harness in a 1967 or 1968 Mustang is different with the OIL and ALT idiot lights than the one with full gauges.
Too many projects, too little time, but.. lovin' it!
