re: Jcwhitney DashPad. Photos
I don't know if that color was only for two years. It looks a lot like my 72. I just finished a dash pad install. It was a second-hand off eBay, so it doesn't fit quite right; it kind of sags over the left of the instrument panel. I'll try tomorrow to loosen a few of the nuts and see if I can move it back any. Here's what it looks like:

Teacherman, do you have any pictures of the back of that dash pad? From the looks of it (shiny-ness), it looks like one of the Cal-Mustang dashpads that are known for poor 'fitment'.
If you have some pictures of it, I'd be able to tell from the way the vents were attached and the mounting studs moulded in. The vents on those were just screwed/bolted in from the back. Also, was the dash kind of "floppy" when you went to install it? Those did not seem to have the steel insert that the official repops available at DC, Whitney, NPD, etc. have. They were also very "shiny", because instead of a vinyl covering over foam, they seemed to be formed from an injection-molded process or something.

It was for only 2 3 years. All I have to do is ask my friend that work on the Ford line from 67 to 90 something up in Ka Mo. There is a color that is a shade lighter then mine and there really hard to tell the diff.Teacherman wrote:I don't know if that color was only for two years. It looks a lot like my 72. Yea, the pad was very floppy. I noticed it didn't have the steel insert when I pulled it out of the wrapping. Sigh. See what happens when you try to save a few bucks? Should have asked the seller where he got it from. I read in other threads about the Cal-Mustang dash pads. I should have known something was up when the original nuts wouldn't fit on the new studs.Supermike wrote:Teacherman, do you have any pictures of the back of that dash pad? Well, it'll keep for a couple of years. Besides it doesn't have a crack running from the right side of the radio hole to the front of the pad.

Bummer. Sorry to hear that... the Cal-Mustang studs were different.
A warning to everyone looking to buy a dashpad, be careful what you're paying for if you go through ebay. Those Cal-Mustang pads are out there, and aren't worth what people are paying for them. Anyone who lists one for sale using the Cal-Mustang text ("original style", "steel insert", "same in every way") is getting SERIOUSLY duped.
We now know the dashpads at JC Whitney are the same ones DC sells, and you can get coupon codes for free shipping or $50-75 off from time to time from Whitney. It's a much safer route, unless the pad on eBay came from a parts truck or has a Ford part # associated with it.

It's buyer beware, isn't it? Well, live and learn. I wouldn't mind it so much if I hadn't had to fight with it all afternoon to get it on there right. And now I just remembered I didn't reconnect the defroster hoses
Ah well, it's not football season anyway, and it's not like I had anything else planned for tomorrow.

Indeed. The thing that's annoying is if someone sells one with the original description, KNOWING it's not right. It's one thing to sell it as a "reproduction, not exact, ask questions" kind of deal. It's quite another to knowingly misrepresent it like Cal-Mustangs did. Makes those people as bad as CM.
Good luck with those defrost hoses... if I recall, those defrost vents don't allow the for the same kind of hook-up.... there's nothing there to hold the cup on the end of the hose. Not sure what you can use if that's the case. Maybe some small screws and a thin piece of plastic cut to form a holder?

Every time I violate my personal of "be willing to pay a little extra for quality," I get burned.
You'd think after nearly 40 years, I'd remember. When I violate that rule, it is usually preceded by the thought, "What the heck with Linda think of me spending this money?"

Agreed... happens the same to me, too. The old adage "if it's too good to be true, it probably is" applies. I got burned on a couple of things from Cal-Mustangs, so from now on I verify first. I had been keeping my eye on the JC Whitney pads for a long time, but bought a Cal-Mustang pad and got fried. Lesson learned.Teacherman wrote:Every time I violate my personal of "be willing to pay a little extra for quality," I get burned. You'd think after nearly 40 years, I'd remember.

re: Jcwhitney DashPad. Photos
The good news is putting the defroster lines back wasn't a big problem. They don't fit into the dash pad, but the metal dash itself. Just slipped up into the holes nice and easy.
I might replace the dash pad with a JC Whitney this summer if my mom and mother in law write checks as a graduation present. Or maybe I'll help the economy with that tax rebate everydoby in Washington was sooooo excited about.![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Re: Jcwhitney DashPad. Photos
My original dash pad was covered probably 20 years ago by an upholstery guy. It looks okay, but I want the original dash. I found this thread that died back in March. JCW was selling these pads for $330 in March of 2008. Now it is December and they are going for $370. DC has the black pads listed for the same price. The other colored pads are discounted to $300. I really want the black one, but dang these prices befuddle me. Does anyone have any recent experience with these pads or prices.

I haven't bought one but here is one on Ebay that looks to be an LMC one, hard to tell... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... :IT&ih=018bjde0b wrote:My original dash pad was covered probably 20 years ago by an upholstery guy.
