On door weatherstrip ?

Post by RockFish »

Does anyone know where/how part # 5 from this diagram is supposed to attach ? It seems to attach with screws, but the truck doesn't have them on now, and I see no evidence of them being installed previously. Seems to indicate it would be screwed to the door ? Anybody have a picture of these installed on their truck ?

just a idea.. i cant look since my turck is 50 miles away ...but could it go under the door kick plates?? or what ever they are called( the crome looking step ups that also hold the carpet down??

Would be my guess probally wrong though

I am agreeing with rockfish I took out my scuff plates about a week ago if it wasn't for the rust (that is getting fixed) I'd be 100% sure it is but since alot of my floorpan is gone I can only be 95%. at the back end of the scuff plates though where it is not rusted out the it appeares that the weather strip was screwed on or pinched in under the scuff plate. I hope this helps

I guess what's throwing me off is the name - The text says "door seal - on door" - Makes it sound like it's supposed to attach to the door ?

Mine has them, they are screwed down to the door opening with screws through the floor. I thought all truck had them, what holds the carpet down without them?

Reread it and think about it. Lower door seal - On door...

I've noticed them on dents and all the newer trucks. Figure there should be some dimples on the door shell showing where screws would go (my '71 is missing them as well)

Kinda like the plastic fender splash shields the dents have that will fit our trucks as well.

I've parted out lots of bumpsides, and only one of them had some weatherstrip across the bottom. I always thought it was owner-installed. I believe I still have that door in the scrap iron pile, though I think I removed the weatherstrip. I'll try to get some pics where you can at least see the holes for the visual on where it was mounted.

It looks to me like they are talking about the scuff plate like said above. If it's for a 68-72 there is no other seal besides the door seal that I know of. Looks like the scuff plate in the picture to me as well.
Maybe mis-named in the diagram?

OK, here's the promised picture....with the weatherstrip still attached. Well, what's left of it, anyway.
