Just borrowed a plasma (an OLD Lincoln CutPro 60) to do a frame rail splice on a Kenworth.... now I've gotta have one too. I've been holding off for years...but this spoiled me!! There goes another $1500

Huh??? I use oxy acetylene daily, a lot. I spend maybe $150 a year on gas for it. Argon for TIG is the most expensive gas I buy. It's about 15 times the cost of oxygen and 5 times more than acetylene.

I have 3 sets of oxygen and acetylene bottles that I keep full so I never have to worry about running out on weekends or holidays.

Plasma is really nice for cutting, but decent machines are expensive and plasma consumables cost more than acetylene gas ever could.

Oxy acetylene doubles to replace a dozen other shop tools if you know how to use it. Plasma just cuts.

Nice work John!

hmm that is a good point just the only problem is for auto class snap on is the only one that comes once a week. they also offer craftsman and a few others i just havent thought about it to much i guess  i know from what kobalt tools ive used they are great. most of the stuff i own now is either craftsman or stanley and a few cresent brand tools.

I guess i will make a desision when i get that far. They basically shove the snap on tools on you as the best deal you can get.
The deal they are pitching is 4,000 dollars of tools for 2000 or so
Later this evening after we get back from shopping i will list all the tools for the class

There are far better deals to be had. Spend some time googling and actually calling vendors and price out "mechanics tool sets". Vendors put these kits together for big companies and the US government/military for sale through GSA. The stuff is almost always first cabin, but the kits are put together with tools from everyone.

I set a friend's kid up with a huge Waterloo box full of brand new Proto and craftsman tools for just under $1500 a couple years ago.

The filling, isn't that bad,but for the purchase of the tanks(medium/not fullsize tanks)it was right around $500 for both. I called 3 dif.places around here and they were all within $20 of each other. I ended up leasing
for a yr. and that cost around $150 for both full.

Do you use your local craigslist? A couple hundred should get a pretty nice setup that you own.

One thing I've found is you can find beater old unknown tanks and bigger wholesale gas outfits will usually exchange them no questions asked. They don't seam to care in the least what the tanks say on them.

Well, today craigslist came through again... I just bought a fully tooled 3/4"-2.5" hydraulic exhaust tubing bender. I've been thinking of buying a ratchet style post tubing bender for making custom tube crossmembers, shock hoops and the occasional tube bumper/cage. I passed on a heavily used hand pump hydraulic one a few weeks ago for $750 that had just two die sizes. New they're in the $1000-$1500 range plus a couple hundred per die size plus shipping.

Well, the exhaust bender popped up, it's in excellent shape and even runs off single phase. Even has all the expander dies and whatnot.... All for $900!!! The problem is I have no place to put it. I'm literally out of room. It'll have to set outside and I put my big CNC mill for sale today since it has too much dust on it to justify keeping it anymore.
