re: Metra 999222 stereo install kit.
I need to get one of those kits. The way I have mine now seems to work fine. It has just been sitting in the hole for about 3,000 miles now, not bolted in at all, but works.

Re: Metra 999222 stereo install kit.
OK this seems like the miracle answer to my problem. Looks like several of you have used it on the 70-72s. I presume it'll work well on my 72 F250. I was worried a little about the angle of the dash and the stereo facing downward. I guess this mount negates that?
My next problem is how to mount the antenna. Where to bore the hole so that it'll will look good and be easy to run the wire without taking the truck apart?

I bought mine at circuit city and it was only about $13 bucks since they are closing their stores nationwide. Just ask them back in the car stereo installation area for the kit.

Re: Metra 999222 stereo install kit.
I see the problem with the Best Buy guys you all were talking about. They don't have a clue. So I went to a local stereo shop. He said he could get the part for me for $30. What a mark up HUH! I checked Ebay and with shipping it was $22. Oh well I'll be in business soon. I wish I would have found this thread a couple of weeks ago and wouldn't have had to stress or wait. ![Happy Dance :hd:](./images/smilies/icon_dancing.gif)

Hey crazy larry. Im guessing due to room you used a screwdriver to put the screws in or could you fit a small drill? I have two trucks to do when I can get the time to play with them.

Ha Ha...I worked there...Train? whats that??morganater wrote:I got it at BestBuy and it worked out great. I did have a problem with the best buy employees though. took me like 15 minutes to explain to him that they have a kit for any/all volvos that also happens to fit my truck. I eventually got the kit
. Bestbuy needs to train their employees better?
That would cost money.

Re: Metra 999222 stereo install kit.
to mount the anteena just drill a hole on the passenger side cowl area on top. run the anteena wire throught the cab at the rubber plug. that is where the factory did it. then over to the radio.

Re: Metra 999222 stereo install kit.
OK almost ready to start the install. I got the kit a while back....but on the night of the superbowl I tore a calf muscle and achilles tendon. Was in a cast until last week. Now in a walking boot and getting more mobile everyday.
Question is. When you bend the ears back (on the 72)....do you put a screw through the plastic clip into the bent back ear or somewhere else?
Plus I wandering how in the heck those two screws are going to be able to handle the weight of the stereo. I know some have said use a metal band attached to the back. But how in the heck do you accomplish that. I see no way to access that area once you have the stereo in. I know there is probably a simple answer, but I'm at a loss.![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)

Re: Metra 999222 stereo install kit.
ok i keep seeing the same question over and over in this thread. how do you mount the the dash kit in and keep it from sliding downto the bottom of the opening. i bent the ears back and placed the kit with the radio in it and it just slid to the bottom of the opening. does anyone have any pics of the finished install of the kit. so that i can see how to install mine and where to attach the screws to lock it in place.

Re: Metra 999222 stereo install kit.
69ranger. I put mine in yesterday. Sounds like you had the same result as me. I haven't secured mine in yet. The reciever is in the metra kit with the ears bent back. It fits well side to side. But its resting on the lower portion of the original cutout as you described. I thought about shooting a screw threw the reciever sleeve into the plastic metra clip and then on into the ears. But there are such tight tolerances on the reciever sleeve I didnt think it would allow for a screw head in there. Then also I thought that that stuff is so thin it may ruin the reciever sleeve. I decided to leave it be for the time being so I could think about it and give some of these old dogs around here time to answer my question. Sorry I'm not helping you....... but at least you know there is at least one other guy with the same problem. If you find the cure let me know!

Re: Metra 999222 stereo install kit.
i used a long philips extension in a cordless drill. tabs are bent back, get the bracket where you want it, use a self tapping sheet metal screw or two on either side. that is sufficient to hold the bracket in place. you will need to mount some plumbers tape (or otherwise) to the back of the stereo and the inner dash somewhere. (dont use the wiper rod.)(dont ask how i know
) btw this is much easier to do if your glove box is removed and you can work thru the glove box door...

Do these work for a '67?
Never mind! I found page 2 of this thread. Looks like the answer is "No".
