70 custom dash Q

Post by 67mann »

While gutting my cab yesterday, undoing all the wire harness and getting the dash controles out---I came across what seems to be a bulb socket?
It was on the left side of the headlight switch and is about the size of a dime in diameter---no cover or bulb--just a socket. Is it an idiot light? and for what--my bezal has all working gauges--gas,oil, temp, charge
I've had enough and I'm not alone

Thats your brake light socket. Look far left above your emer brake release, should be a hole in dash where it goes. Po probably unhooked it due to it staying on to indicate brake inbalance.
I know mine is unhooked for now until i get to the brakes cause it stays on all the time. Others on the site can give you more info and links on this issue.

I replaced the black burnt out bulb in my brake warning light socket.

Mine stays on at night now, AND, the red lens is missing from the bezel so I have a nightlight inside my cab as I drive at night. I have found that nothing scares me when I drive at night since the nightlight is on all the time now.

67mann or peanutman, if you need a bezel, I don't know where I have put all of the ones I have pulled out of the trucks that have come and gone from the wrecking yard I go to here. I won't promise they all have pit-free chrome on them. You can never have too many spare parts, can you? As I go digging through the stuff over the next few weeks / months I can let you know when I find them if you PM me.

I get all kinds of spare parts for my truck at a fair price, sometimes in mixed piles of miscellaneous stuff, so I will only ask for my shipping fees back from you if I dig them out and send them off in the mail to either of you.

I cut the lenses out of a piece of red plastic. I've got several cut if you need one, as well as the whole light assembly. PM me with an address to snail mail a lense to and I'll send it in an envelope at no charge.

So THAT'S what that holes for. I've got a red, lighted, toggle switch in that hole. I thought the PO had hooked up fog lights or something and stuck that switch in there but it's not hooked up to anything. Now I know what to do with it! Thanks!
