OK i believe this wire may go for the spare gas tank wiring but not sure when i hooked up the test light it flashes like all the sending wires. This is located on the drivers side inner fender near cab.

re: what is this wire for??
Ok i found out that the wire is for the spare under bed tank sender unit. I unhooked the in cab tank wire and probed the wire and grounded it with the test light and as it was flashing with the switch on i looked at the fuel gauge and saw it was going up it only got to half way so i probally need to clean inside of the connector.
Several people may have know that but its news to me so i learned something new today

I just looked under the hood of the '68 F100 donor truck that I have here that has the belly tank under it. That same orange colored wire's female plug is connected to a harness that travels down under the truck along with the bed wiring harness. I believe it is for the belly tank's fuel sender, without tracing it out. Ford doesn't usuallt duplicate wire colors in a wiring harness for two different components.
The '68 F100 I drive every day, that doesn't have the belly tank, has the same orange wire with the female connector, only it has nothing plugged into it.

Too many projects, too little time, but.. lovin' it!
