Seat swap

Post by iamthewreckingcrew »

I swapped the seat in my bump this evening. What an easy job. I was surprised how well it went.

I took the seat out of my 81. I don't think it is an 81 seat though. I think it was swapped from a later model yet.

Anyway, the seat in my 68 was trashed, so I swapped them. I unbolted the 81's seat (4 bolts) and removed it from the truck.

Then I unbolted the 68's seat (8 bolts), and removed it. All I had to do to make it work was swap the tracks from the 68 seat to the new seat. Everything else was a straight bolt in.

I wanted to take project pictures, but my camera was dead and I didn't have any new batteries. I will take pictures of the finished product and post them in the near future. I will also take some pics to try and explain how I did it, since I have one seat out still.

I think I'm going to go junkyarding for some 3 point seat belts from an early 90's F truck too. I thought about the seat belts from the 81, but the retractors are above. The seat belts in my 92 are down on the floor. Or does anyone know of belts besides expensive aftermarket that will bolt in?

The bad thing is, I looked at my buddy's 92 GMC and it looks like his belts would bolt right in. I just can't bring myself to put Generic Motors parts in my Ford.

There has to be a FoMoCo setup that will work. I'll keep looking. I'll take a closer look at my 92 setup to see if I could make it work. I'm just not sure how the retractor is mounted because it is behind plastic trim in the 92.

same here put a 96 seat in my 72 what a breeze I even have a cup holder, armrest and air lumbar,,, nice upgrade but now I need a shorter steering column or a slightly smaller wheel to maintain more clearance between legs and seat.

Got any pics of the new seat installed for us? Did ya have any luck finding some 3-point seat belts that fit?
