More interior updates and fixes

Post by iamthewreckingcrew »

Well, this morning I went back out to the garage to see what else I could fix on my 68.

When I bought it almost ten years ago, there were no keys for it. The old guy couldn't find them. I replaced the ignition switch back then so I could at least start it with a key.

This morning, I went back to see what I could scavenge off of the 81. I took the door lock out of the 81 and swapped it for the one in my 68 driver's door. Another easy job. The locks were identical except for the part that actually hooks to the linkage. They are held on by a clip and I took a pair of needle nose and switched the parts. PERFECT. Now I can actually lock my 68. I'm going to swap the other one out later.

I also swapped the window cranks. My 68 didn't have knobs on the cranks when I got it. They worked great too.

I'm getting excited about working on my baby again.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

Hey that's great. So the window cranks from the 81 fit ok in the 68?

yes almost all ford window cranks will fit. it just depends on what you want them to look like plastic or the metal ones that came from the factory.

They matched good enough for me. The design is the same, but the 81 handles had a slight angle built into them that makes them come out from the door panel slightly instead of being almost flat against the door panel like the originals.

Thanks for the info. The two that I have right now are mis-matched, one is cracked, and one is wobbly, so just about anything will be an upgrade

I sure wish I could make the power steering and tilt wheel from the 81 work in my 68. I'm not tossing it until I'm SURE I can't though.
