Quick question....

Post by 03svtsnakevert »

Ok, I posted something about my dash lights in the interior section...well after replacing the light switch and removing the cluster and cleaning all the contacts, they work...here is the question:

I have the cluster for the idiot lights and when I turn the key on the "ALT" light comes on but not the "OIL" light, is this correct? This is on a 72.

Thanks again!

IMO I think they should both come on as the self chck. try removing the lead to the oil sending unit and ground it see if the "oil" light comes on if so maybe a bad oil sending unit. If it does'nt come on the oil bulb may be bad I maybe incorrect but it's a starting point.

I know that the bulb is good, however there is no engine in the truck right now...this is probably why the light does not come on

Yup, WT is correct, try grounding the wire with the key on and it should light up. Basically the oil light sender can be thought of as a light switch, thats all it is. No engine = no sender = no light switch. If the wire is not connected to the light switch, then there isn't anything to turn the light on. The sender is switching ground, so if you ground the wire that goes to the sender, on goes the light.
