I know this isn't the safest thing to do, and the cops probably wouldn't like to see it either, But I was thinking about taking an antique bottle and using it as a water level, that corrisponds with my fuel tank. Basically it would be a direct reading of how much fuel I have. Wanted to know what everyones thoughts are on this. The link I am providing is actual water level, a little more than what I would need.

Basically I would need a flued line, and an air line running back to the tank, and than mount the bottle to the dash. Sor of a Rat Rod, kinda thing, but I have nothing but time to sit here and ponder ideas. So What do you all think!!!

Well sure, it would work to a certain extent, and look really cool. But if you got in a crash it would turn you into a blow torch.
I really hate being negative to such a cool idea, but I just cant picture a way to make it safe.
Don't give up on it though, this requires a brain storm!

I was thinking maybe a plastic whiskey bottle, good stell tubing, and than this set up just outside the fuel tank. I think I could wire it so that if I lost power for any reason it would shut off...

Ok I found the right thing to shut the fuel off...

Now I just need to find a way to keep the bottle from coming apart in a wreck... Don't know if that is 100% Possible, but maybe a way to make it safer!

That's too dangerous. Remember, gas isn't just flammable, it's an explosive. Even just the small amount in the bottle will send enough shrapnel in your eyes in a crash to blind you for life even if you survive.
If your gauge doesn't work just get a long stick.

I actually saw this on a TV show (Hot Rods or Something) a while back... I know it is possible, and I know it isn't the safest thing in the world, but then the fuel tank is right behind the seat anyhow. This is just an idea, and maybe just something I will implement to work while it is sitting there, or I might not put it in at all. I was thinking I might be able to do it with a float in the tank as well. So what was in the bottle was actually just water or something. I believe that would be possible as well. I will have to look more into it, and if anyone has some more ideas that would be awsome as well.
