Original was nice probably 37 years ago... But my truck has parts from a 50's model F100 all the way to 1976... So now my truck is original, it is custom built for me... Doesn't get any more original!!!

The first time the oil was changed our trucks stopped being "original". I think Henry himself would have approved of Jamies' bezels.

Those of us buying these bezels are doing so because they LOOK original, but are BETTER than original. I understand if you are going for a Concours restoration that is to be judged. In that case, use plastic. But if you want something that fits right, looks great, and lasts longer... better order one of Jamie's bezels now.

Unless that somebody isn't really changing it and only charging you to change it.

I mean radial tires aren't original either and neither is getting 35 mpg outa hybriding the darn thing. ok off the soap box now just tired of people hating one item becuase it ain't original, wich honestly i doubt any concourse judges prods anything to make sure its the material its upposed to be cuae i would deck the first one to scrape at my parts or knife my light. seen enough shows that knock you for billet.

but in earlier postings asks how to hybrid a 390.

Concourse judges piss me off too. some would rather you let it rust burn it crush and take crap on it than to custom it in any way. including custom paints. They are like HOA's. Too many people worrying about how things look.

LUV, Read the title of the thread. 'How Ford should have done it'. I like the original design, just not the method. My part follows the basic design with a few differences to make it easier to produce in metal and acrylic (it's about 1/16" larger overall to cover any paint blems from the original). I feel it'll last much longer and work better (IE brighter) without looking out of place.

Funny thing is Tom from Flashback F100's hasn't had many people notice them at the swap meets because they look just like the DC repros at a glance. I think I need to make an ad board for him or something.

In other news the mill is back up and running
After ending up with the wrong encoder I had to rework the casing (lathework) so it would fit under the fan and the wiring would work, then solder the wires together correctly. Powered it up and the drive saw it move. Set the parameters up for 2500 pulse per revolution encoder vs a 1024 and gave it a speed command of 1000rpm and it ran up to 750rpm. That had me scratching my head until I realized that with the higher pulse count encoder the drive couldn't read the pulses fast enough so it limited the motor from 8000rpm to 6000rpm so my voltage command was referenced at 75% of speed. Had to go into the drive parameters after printing out 300 or so pages of manual and play with the input voltage scalling until the input equalled the output. So now I'm limited to 8000rpm of spindle speed vs 10,000rpm. Regardless I only run around 3500rpm while making the parts. Just threw this up here so you guys saw what was involved to get it back up and making parts.
