Which model Bumps got the cargo light ?

Post by smclaren »

Hi Guys

Which model Bumps got the Cargo Light ?

I have the '69 base model, and it doesn't seem to have one. But I do have a bloody big canopy on my truck that could use a Cargo light for scratching around looking for stuff at night.

Would my base model have factory "wiring to go" to fit the light. What controls the cargo lights off/on ? Any other info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

My '69 has the cargo light. There's a knob on the dash next to the cigarette lighter for turning it on.
I'd guess you'd have to run the wiring, I'd be surprised if it was there in a truck that never had it.
I don't think it'll help you in your camper shell though, I have one too and the light is right behind the top of the shell so it doesn't light anything of use up. Of course, there's no reason not to run some wiring to the shell itself and install some done lights.

Hmmmmm ... like the way you think, Tough !!

If I hooked one up in the middle of my canopy, I wonder if I could hook it onto the light switch that also turns on the interior cabin light so I get the interior light AND the canopy on at the same time ?

That'd work, and if you wanted you could put a switch in the canopy to turn the light off in there when you only wanted the cab light to come on.

Hey smclaren

It's very easy to wire a light in your canopy...

It would be much like wiring for a camper.
My camper wiring comes up in between the bed and the cab.
There is a 4 wire flat connecter there.
The camper used to plug in there and that connection fed the power to the camper.
You could very easily do the same kinda connection there so when you wanted to remove the shell, you could just unplug the connector.
The + power wire would feed to the switch then go to the light (you could put the switch just inside the back window).
The ground wire would go the truck body.
It's a pretty easy job...

IF... you wanted to do the cargo light thing... your stock wiring should have the connector in the wire harness to hook it all up! (At least the US ones will but those down under should too :P ) All you would have to do is get the cargo light switch and wiring + cargo light if that is what you were going to use and plug it in...

Here is the wire diagram for it! http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... ycargo.jpg That connector (E) should be in your wire harness, this is where it gets the power for the cargo light to the switch

Or, if you just want to put in a switch and wire a light in your canopy you could get the power for it off of this same connector (E) :) if'n you want too.

If you can get ahold of a cargo light switch the canopy light is easy. I just sold a complete cargo light assembly, everything from the switch to wiring to the light itself on Ebay to someone in Ecuador. Your truck ought to have the one wire plug in above the light switch. i will look through my collection of stuff and see if I can find another complete set up if you're interested.

Nope, there is just a "Tap" off of the power wire for the dome light off of the door switchs, there at that connector (E). The wires from there to the cargo light switch and from the cargo light switch to the cargo light wont be in the truck unless it came with the cargo light from the factory
