your question first,
but once its answered i have a verry similiar question.

how will dying a cloth seat to a different color hold up? not sure what color it will be, but it wont be the same. right now its a marroon color.

Vinyl paint works well. Some hardware stores carry it, also most upholstery stores carry it. It holds up surprising well.

Don't confuse it with plastic paint, plastic paint wont hold up, the vinyl paint actually bonds to vinyl.

Seats are hard, blue to black will probably be ok, but you'll still be able to tell it was painted.

Would it not be easier to put black skins on another seat and sell the blue one to recoup some of the cost?
