I think it's the wiring for reverse lights for a 4 speed truck. :)

With the orange wire in the harness I would go for the Dual Tank switch wiring pigtail. That is odd though, the harness looks like it has all FEMALE connectors on it. Usually a pigtail that is powered from another harness would have a MALE end on at least one wire. I don't believe Ford ever left a "hot" male end on a harness of a vehicle, only female ends.

I don't think it is for the Ranger bed light wiring because I pulled a bed light harness out of a '68 last weekend in the wrecking yard and it was a lot longer and had the green-with-orange-stripe wire in the harness.
Too many projects, too little time, but.. lovin' it!

when he says "reverse lights", its not REALLY wiring going straight to the reverse lights, but in the engine compartment / steering column area there is a Neutral safety switch (which has to do with reverse lights) which leads to something that looks a little like this wiring :)

Floyd, 3 speed trucks have a reverse light switch mounted on the steering column under the hood.It uses 2 spade connecters.I can't remember if they are male or female on the harness.4 speed trucks mount the reverse light switch on the trans with a short harness going to the same spade connecters. The harness is similar to your picture.Automatic trucks have a jumper wire between the spade connecters.

Ryan, the neutral safety switch prevents starting the engine in any moving gear. The reverse light switch for automatic trucks is built into the neutral switch. :)
