Cool Diamondplate Door Decoration thingamabob (Pics) updated
Just figured that I would post one of my little projects.
The previous owner cut the door panels to put in some speakers and they just looked out of place. So I decided to make some sort of cool thingamabob to improve the looks. This is what I came up with....
This is the before pic of the door. See the fancy speaker stands out a little.
We had some extra Aluminum Diamonplate layin around so I figured "why not?" This is a pic of a rough layout of where I want it to go. (I cut these panels out with shears so my hands are killing me ) I lined the panel up just under the crease in the door.
After it was the right shape I layed out and cut the hole needed for the speakers.
Because the door was already cut I didnt feel bad about drilling holes to use rivets. Otherwise I might have used double sided tape like on the cool door sill pieces I made previously. (My new seat belt retractor made it in this photo, thanks Ryan)
After I trimmed the hole to fit the speaker I decied where to put the rivets that hold the panel on. I drilled the holes, lined 'em up and put a rivet gun to the door.
I have a pic of the rivets up close but we all know what they look like
So I rivited the panel on and screwed the speaker back in and bam, all done.
I think that it turned out pretty good, not that I'm pattin myself on the back or anything . I still have to do the passenger side tomorrow. It would have been tone today but it is just too hot outside .
DaNe!!!

Yeah I did the diamond plate on the floor too. To attatch it we prepped the area with Probond, Its an adhesion promoter. Then we used 3M double sided tape. Its not going anywhere.BiggDogg wrote:Nice! I'm assuming you did the diamond plate on the floor too? How is it mounted there?
Thanks for the compliments everybody, it feeds my ego just kidding

Where did you get the diamond plate? An auto supply store? I am not sure where I can buy some at I like the looks of it.

Alrighty. I got the passenger door done this morning. Here are the pics.
Does anybody want some East Texas leaves?
The finished product.
Get a little in here
Tonight if I can remember I will take some pics with the Blue LED glow from under the dash reflecting off the panels
I have just enough left that I was thinking of covering the glove box. I don't know if that would be too much or not. Tell me what you think

I'm not sure if I will do the kick panels as I am running out of Diamond plate But if I come across more I might. That turned out pretty nice. I have some embossed stainless to do mine. Now I know what it'll look like... Are you going to do the kick panel as well?
I got the Diamond plate from my parents place of enjoyment...I mean employment It comes off of Weekend Warrior toy hauler trailers, and I'm not sure if you can get that style from other places So if you want any hit up your local R.V. dealer.Where did you get the diamond plate? Beatnik Fink,
That turned out real nice. To test the glove box idea, just cut out a piece of cardboard, paint it with "chrome" paint and test fit it. If you like it, then you just made your template. If not, then too much time (and wasted diamond plate) was not lost. Just a thought.
