Stupid domelight
Ok I can't get my dome light to come on. The bulb is good and i traced all the wires and can't find any splits etc. My friggen test light decided it doesnt work so I can't tell if its getting power to it or not. I also tried out a different dome light assembly and nothing. HELP!

re: Stupid domelight
I would but I already made the 75 mile round trip to town....my volt meter doesnt show any power going through either where the assembly plugs in or where the wire goes into the main harness.

That sounds like it might be the light switch itself.

The rest of the lights work though? Does it matter if the other ones work and this one doesn't are they two different systems in the switch?kaptnkaos wrote:That sounds like it might be the light switch itself.

The idiot figured it out . It wasn't grounding properly which is really weird considering that it was screwed in all the way before i took it out to see what was up.

I have a 1971 with a stupid dome light as well! I have thourghly checked all the wireing and all the grounds. I sanded off a spot where the light bolts in to make sure I have a good ground. This light is supposed to come on when you open the door. It is supposed to come on when you turn it on with the light switch. Somtimes it comes on, sometimes it doesnt. I replaced the bulb, and it helped for a while. If its off and Its supposed to be on , I can hit the back of the cab and it will ussally come on, but I have checked everything multiple times and I cant find anything wrong. Im convinced its just a STUPID dome light.

Hey clemm17...
That sounds like it might be the socket itself...
The springs on the the back side of the socket where the bulb goes can get corroded and stiff so they don't keep pressure on the bottom of the bulb.
if the socket is corroded it will lose contact as well.
check the socket itself, you can use a battery post brush (the kind that has the two different ends on it to clean the battery post and the cable end) inside the socket.
Use a little dielectric grease on the socket...
You want to be careful not to bridge the contact point with the socket housing or it will short out...
