Cluster Lens Removal on a 70 CS....How to EASILY?
Is there an easy way to remove the lens on the Cluster? I would like to remove mine and polish the lenses in it. Found how to remove the whole thing but was hoping that isn't necessary. Is It??? Thanks!

You remove the whole instrument panel and then turn it over and you'll see the small screws on the back. Easy. Don't forget to unscrew the speedometer cable first (you might have to use a wrench to break it loose) then unplug the instrument panel from the plug.

re: Cluster Lens Removal on a 70 CS....How to EASILY?
Okay! Thanks to everyone for the help! But, I have now complicated this a bit more. My 1970 Cluster shows much wear on the plastic chrome, the needles of the gauges are all faded to almost white, lenses are all hazy, etc.
Here's what I scored today. A Beautiful Cluster, (wood grained), out of a 1972 Ranger XLT. No Wear showing, beautiful red needles, just plain nice! Good Ole Pick N Pull. Okay now, the newly acquired problem is the plugs are different on the back of the Clusters. Anybody ever change the gauges out in a Cluster? Seems to me if I were to use the old Cluster and its related plug but install the great gauges and the wood grain outside I would be good to go. Anybody got any suggestions, advice????

that should work unless maybe if your going 67-70 wires/plug on to the gauges from 71-72.
I think they differ some how.
if not yes swapping them out should work.
Is 70 the year its still wired similair to a 67-69? por is it the first year of the PCB.

re: Cluster Lens Removal on a 70 CS....How to EASILY?
There are 2 different "circuit board" type clusters. On my '70, my speedometer was broken so I got another cluster from a '71 in the junkyard. I was just going to swap the whole thing but the plugs were a little different so I just took it apart and swapped the speedo.
I'd keep the woodgrain bezel and look for a '70 cluster. I think the '70 cluster is different from the '71-'72.
Or...
go back to the truck you pulled the panel out of and cut the plugs, leaving enough wire for splicing and splice them to your wires where your plug was. Then simply plug it in.

On my '70 I had a crappy looking cluster but had a good cluster from a '72. They won't plug in since the wiring is different, but as long as you're not color blind it's pretty easy to fix. Just cut off the connector from the '72 and trace all the wires and hook them up matching the '72. It's a little time consuming, but you got to use what you got.

also depends on how late into the 70 production year that the truck was made ... the 1970 i parted had the same plug in as the 72

re: Cluster Lens Removal on a 70 CS....How to EASILY?
Changed all the gauges, polished the lens piece and wiped away any and all dust everywhere. Polished the bezel and used the back of the 70 Cluster with its plug and all works GREAT! Took less time than I thought it would and the result is well worth it. When I figure out how to post a picture of the Cluster, I will do so...... Thanks to everyone who replied and got me going on this!
