hey guys i just took out the heater from the 69 parts truck and put it in the 71. got everything ready to go but i have no clue how to route the cables and where they go. i can probably figure out where they go by seeing what they do, but id really like to see how you guys have them routed.
so if you have just a heater system in your bump, can you try to get some pictures of how the cables are routed? some cables only need to go a few inches and they are 2 feet long
i know they go there on the control system, but the thing is Ford has 2 foot long cables to go a couple inches. and its really hard to find a way for the cables to go with being able to function properly and to be able to be screwed down and connected.
and i dont know where the cables on the controls go ( i know where the options of where they can go are, the hinges and stuff on the heater box). like which cable goes where.
I was going to reply last night, but figured you would have thought it through and figured it out by now since it's basic logic.
Two cables, two flaps, three conditions
Fill out this chart. Put an 'in' or 'out' for each cable next to each position.
............Cable 1........Cable 2
Off
Heat
Defrost
Now look at the heater and see what position the flaps have to be in to put air to heat or defrost or off and compare that to your chart to tell you which cable is which. If the flap is away from the sheath holder then it's an out position, if it's near then it's an 'in' position.
everyone pretty much thinks im retarded
ill just keep working at it.
i pulled it out of a truck that had the levers not functioning correctly in the first place. i took the cables off of the controls. the cables are still atached to the heater flaps. i know there is only two different possibilities of where they can connect to the controls. but its not that, its that i cant route the cables so they still work easily (cant make too sharp of a bend) and so they get to where they need to go with still fitting on the peg. i have 2 feet of cable to go a couple inches. im wondering where everyone has there cables sitting. i know how a flap works, thats not the problem.
i recently just put mine in and it looped around fine. there is a lot of cable there for so little of a length to go which seems like a bad design. ill see if i can get you a picture if my camera decides to work when i go to work on the truck.

Nah it's not you. I am still fighting with mine. I think the cables get rusty on the inside and don't slide like they should. But you are correct on the two feet of cable to go a few inches. Take anything said to you by a guy with a Ranchero with a grain of salt.
If you know for sure where the cables have to go and they're too long, why not just trim them to fit?

Here ya go Ryan. Sorry I'm so late. It's been a while since I've broused this part of the forum. I hope this helps. The longest cable is attached to the center control and goes through the firewall to the heater valve. In the picture, the pen and finger are pointing to the same cable. Basically, the left control arm is linked to the left 'door' on the heater box.

thanks guys,
i thought this thread died so i figured i wouldnt update it, but i think i did get it all figured out. i managed to find routes for both cables to whirl around so they operate fine and dont interfere with other in-dash stuff. i just have to adjust the cable travel and such now. ill double check with your picture too just for kicks.
