dash pad color

Post by Bob 68 »

Does anyone know if the dash pad is always the same color as the seats? I bought a pair of factory bucket seats that need to be reupholstered out of a 68 ranger, but because I have a black dash pad in my 67 motorhome I don't know if black is my only choice or did they use other color seats with a black dash. I want it the look original if I can.

It's been my experience that if the truck was black, blue, green or red, the dashpad and steering column were that color. All other truck colors had a black dashpad and column. However, my '67 was originally white, and it did have a white 3-spd column...the only white columns I've ever seen have been on '67s and '68s.

Keith, Thanks for the info. If I understand what you said, my white truck with black dash pad could have had almost any color seat from the factory. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The body code on the VIN tag will tell you what color the seat was originally. Look at this link:

Another clue is the dash pad usually matched the arm rests on the doors.
IE: my 68 had a blue interior. Med-light blue vinyl seats, with a dark blue
dash pad, and dark blue arm rests.
Also, in many cases the steering wheel color will match too..
IE: my steering wheel is dark blue to match the dash cover.
Column too..

My 69 had a red seat, red column, red armrests, red metal door panels, red dash....Pretty much all red minus the headliner and visors which are white. And black seat belts.

I also have a 69 ranger camper special in the back yard and everything in it was white minus the black dash pad. Maybe black seatbelts..... But the seat, column, armrests, etc. were white.

All bumpside-era headliners and sunvisors are off-white....it's the only color they were ever available in.

Thanks for all the information. I decided that since the truck is white I'm going with black seat covers. Now the problem I have is the carpet, the one in the truck (green) is worn thru in spots so I want to get a new one (black), but being a motor home there is a rubber pad (same as on drivers side) sewn in the carpet between the seats for the pass thru to camper and I've never seen one like it in any catalog. Has anyone ever had a carpet made? How was the fit? Cost?
