Does anyone know how the knob is attached to the headlight switch (on a 72 if it matters)? Is it just press-fit or is the knob molded on to a widened shaft or something? It looks like the replacements sold by the dealers are a switch with the knob attached. The other knobs (emergency flasher, choke, wipers) are held in place with a set screw. I purchased some billet replacement knobs and am trying to remove the original without destroying it... wasn't sure if I can just pull really hard are if there is something on the end which holds it in place.
Thanks

Re: Headlight switch
I think the knob and shaft are one piece. I think you have to get under the dash and push on button on the switch itself, then the shaft comes out.
Thats all I can remember reading posts on this subject.

You are 100% correct mljjones67
The knob is permanently formed to the shaft.
On the switch itself there is a button that releases the shaft.
You push the button and pull the shaft out... you may have to wiggle and twist a little bit so get it to release all the way, depending on how long it has been since the last time it was removed.

Re: Headlight switch
If your going with the billet knobs, and dont need the stock ones. you might be able to heat it up enough to expand it and pull it off. Then glue the billet on on.
