power windows

Post by 70shortwide »

i did a search for this with no luck, maybe someone can help. a while back i built a bracket for a power window motor, worked out great. thing is, i dont know what to do for the wiring, wish i had thought ahead a little more, but i have plenty of spare time. i heard somewhere you can buy switches that will reverse polarity, but have yet to find them. all i have found for the diys is a mess of relays. could go this route, but if theres an easier way... i would like to make something myself if i can manage to save a worthwhile amount. :help:

You can do a couple of things; find an older car and use the switches out of it as most all the older stuff didn't use relays for the windows (my 88 supra switches are like this).

Or what I would probably do is us a DPDT switch. I found a good article on the net that shows you step by step what you need and how to wire it up to reverse the polarity. They use these same switch setups for dc actuators. Here is the link. http://www.instructables.com/id/HOW-TO: ... ersing-po/ if you have any questions on how to wire this let me know.

Glad to Help! :)

My supra is fun to drive and they're getting pretty rare... I have been fighting some issues with the window switches in mine, as the contacts are getting wore out in them, that’s why I knew about them.

If you get a chance post some more info on what you used for your power window conversion and how you mounted them; photos a plus if you got them. I want to put some in my shorty when I do the build on it.
