newer ford seat in older ford truck

Post by kevs250 »

hey guys i wanted to know if the clearance is suitable for putting in a 1990s ford truck seat into my 1970 f250
i want a little more luxury in my truck and when i thought about it, i realized the stock steering wheel might not
clear the new seat. i want to keep the steering wheel but not sure if the seat will fit.
let me know guys if you had the same problem

Two weeks ago I a temped to install a 90s 40 20 40 seat in my 68. Ran out of time. But I installed a vinyl seat out of my 93 F350 and it direct bolted in. Only problem is I lost clearance on the belly. You skinny guys wont have a problem. I am tall in my torso so I sit much higher in the truck. I am going to drop off the factory seat at the trim shop and have new cover made for it.

I'm 5'10" and 175 pounds and I can't get the stock seat back far enough, I can't imagine putting anything with a thicker seat back in a 68-72 F series. This has more to do with the distance to the pedals than to the steering wheel.

I can relate....I'm 6'4, 240 lbs. To me, the pedal distance and seat height is comfortable, but my thighs just barely fit under the wheel when I climb in (and that's with the worn-out stock seat!). Kinda makes me consider putting in a tilt......but I think if I put in a newer seat, I'd have to lower the tracks somehow.

Anybody out there ever tried that (lowering the seat tracks)?

cheers

IS there a shorter steering coloum that you could use? OR how about a smaller wheel? Would either of those help?

if you have manual steering you can use a power steeringcolumn, they are a bit shorter. youll have to come up with a mount for underneath the column, but its not difficult to do. with power steering of course you can use a smaller wheel
