Battery hold-down bracket

I found a few replacement hold-downs, but nothing thats specifically for the 67-72's. I've found the hold-down bolts, but what should I use for a bracket?

I'm guessing that the 12" bungee strap wasn't standard equipment.

i got mine at a wrecking yard, it's off a newer ford car, just look around til you find one that's in good shape. unless your into the correct parts thing... then please forgive me...

Yes, well I admit I thought about sawing off the end of a broomstick, but I was wondering if there was an aftermarket source for a more correct replacement.

You're talking about the piece that goes across the top of the battery, right? I know I've seen those around in one of the aftermarket Ford truck catalogs, but I can't remember which one. I'll see if I can find it again.

LOL! I threw one of those out a couple months ago. Wasn't expecting to have two of these trucks by now, does anyone else know what im talking about

I've tossed many good ones in favor of the bungee. I have dealt with too many corrded bolts that won't resist removal and usually when it is 20 below, all you have is a vise grip and you are late already.

I just used a length of 3/4" - 1" angle iron and drilled holes at the ends. I never used bungee cords after I seen a co-worker get snapped in the eye when the cord let loose from the hook.

Ya know what one of the most common motorcycle injuries is? Getting hit with a bungee cord! I keep my helmet on when strapping anything to the seat.

If you do any road or drag racing, a battery bungee cord is illegal.

I've been told the one from Carpenter isn't "correct" But it does work.

The one on mine looks to be vinyl coated and maybe padded judging by the crap falling out where the vinyl has split. Don't know if its original. I picked up a used one just like the one Duck Ryder has.

Yours sounds original, here's what it looks like:

1970 Sport Custom - that "crap" falling out from the split vinyl is probably white/yellowish in color. I bet it's corrosion from battery acid. Take some baking soda, water and a wire brush to it and I bet you'll just see metal.

Probably right. I was thinking that, but it sure leached up quite a bit, it is really pushing the vinyl up. I planned on replacing it with the plastic one.
