Question about my underdash air.

Post by TRUCKRODDER »

Anyone heard of A-R-A underdash units and are there any sources for parts? Looks like it was made in Grandprairie , Texas. The unit was made for the truck as it follows the countours of the dash. I found the receipt and it was put in in 73' , truck is a 71'.

Well I still have not found another like it on the internet or any info on the company. :hmm: . I am thinking of converting to 134a but will have to look for leaks first. Have been thinking of replacing with a whole new system but the $$$$ are tight right now! :(

there were many units like thes made that followed the contours of the dash. are you needing something specific right now or a just in case kind of thing? i think the most parts that unit woudl have would be fans switches and maybe a a coil of sorts up in there someplace. if you are needign o rings or something for the lines. im sure those could be gotten at the parts store.

If this is the typical underdash unit...ARA, Clardy, Frigi-King, etc. The expansion valve can be found at your local Napa, amongst other places. If the Evap holds pressure, you should be fine.Switches are a hunt & seek at best. Flare fittings should be ok on the underdash unit, i'd change to o*ring fittings in the rest of the system if possible

Everything looks pretty complete, as far as I can tell. The compressor is one of big York units. The old man I bought the truck from said the a/c had a leak but he did not drive it enough to worry with it. It did come with 2 cans of R-12 :D though! I am going to just try to put all new o-rings in it and try a leak check with nitrogen. I have converted one old truck to 134a and may try this one as well. Thanks for your comments!
