I ought to make another one and spend a little more time on it to make it look nicer, but it still looks better than most setups I've seen. I'll post pics soon.

I look forward to seeing them. :)

Looks great.

I went and picked out a 8" sub and amp. I'm going to make a small center console (9" x 9") that will sit just in front of the seat on the hump. It's going to be the same height as the seat with the woofer pointing down with a space in-between the woofer and floor. I'm going to build the top with two cup holders and a small tray for odds and ends (and a place to set the remote for the stereo  ).

This is where I get my car audio, Car Concepts. http://www.carconceptsslc.com/index.htm

Some of our trucks (probably '71-'72) came with optional factory AM/FM stereos. My '72 Ranger XLT Camper Special had one at one time. It's too bad the truck was a rusted pile when i bought it for $100.

it is am/fm,tape and you can get it with a cd player. it also has the ability to plug those mp3 players in to it.
not a good pic but it looks stock from here

Did you also buy the speaker from LMC that mounts in the dash?

I used the in dash type radio in my '61 Falcon. It didn't strike me as the best quality unit I've ever seen and was kind of expensive, but it worked. (The "falcon" script on the front fell off after sitting in the sun the first time.) The people I ordered it from, Mac's Antique Auto, assured me that the little speaker would fit the factory hole. It did not. Too big for opening. The hidden antenna failed to live up to hype also.

I will probably use the same unit in my '71 Sport Custom as it does look stock and is therefore less a magnet to ne'er do well stereo thieves.

My daughter and son-in-law gave me my new sub today. :woohoo:

Thanks td, I'm looking forward to listening to something other than the AM radio.
