Tom, I've noticed that with an '86 timer in my '68, the wipers have a fairly rapid sweep in the delay mode. Do you think using the earlier pre-'80 box would make a difference? This is one of those things I've been meaning to try for quite a while but never think of when I'm working on the dang truck. My thinking is they may have changed the specs for the box because of the extra two inches in length of the blades from '80 up.

It does not have variable sweep but only one intermittent sweep speed? If so the box is bad.

The variable delay between sweeps works fine but the sweep seems almost too fast. Maybe it's just me...

The timing is from 15 seconds between sweeps to .5 Seconds between sweeps at the low speed wiper speed.

Speaking of numbers:
I checked the relay and switch that i have.
Relay says D3TBAA, cannot read the switch.
Both Motorcraft components.

Did Ford have delay wipers as a special order before the '78 trucks? Otherwise how did it end up with a 1973 Truck part number designation?

Our 76 F350 wrecker had them when I worked for Hunt Ford. The relay could have been out of a car.???? D3TB so it is a 73 truck part.

Yes, as Dragon has already confirmed, intermittent wipers were available begining in 1973. It was an option just like some of the other rare stuff like CB radios, heated rear windows etc... They are out there but just not really as common as they were in the later 70's. I just scored a complete fog light setup from a 79, those are really rare in our area, I have only seen a handfull of them including when I was at the dealership when they were new! There are a lot of rare items that you would never know about unless you looked through all the sales books, order sheets, dealer letters and parts books. I actually did not believe there was a tilt column for a four speed truck in 79 but I have since verified it did happen. Some of these options are just so rare that you never see them. Hawkrod

I got mine off of E-Bay and figured it out by trial and error.
