Hey all,
I am working on installing an aftermarket radio into my '69. There is no wiring harness to be found. Do I just need to connect the radio to the battery and the ignition, or is there anything else? I do not have a lot of experience in wiring, so just trying to learn.
Thanks,
Tom

Depending on the type of stereo yer installing...
If you have a clock feature, you'll need a hot all the time power feed and a keyed one, if you want the stereo to only have power with the key on.
If you want it to be able to turn on without the key, you can either run a wire to the positive side of yer cylinoid or to one of the spare outlets on yer fuse box.
Make sure to use the proper inline fuse for your unit.
You'll also need a good ground... then hook up the speaker wires according to yer stereo instructions..
Yep, I said instructions... real men actually read them...
Are you running a separate amp? If so, I'd recomend runnin' it to a power switch so it doesn't stay on...
A power amp will drain a battery pretty quick.

Re: Aftermarket radio install
Thanks for the reply. A buddy of mine had an old CD player laying around and I wanted FM radio so i figured I would go ahead and try and install it. I found the manual online, but I still have some questions. I don't really need the radio on when the truck isn't on. If I want to use key'd power, where is the best place to pull it from?
Also, I managed to get power to the radio, but it won't light up and it continually tries to extract a cd. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom

on the left side behind the instrument cluster is a three socket plug. it usually has 1 orange wire plugged into it. that is where to get your power from for a keyed power switch. the orange wire im talking about goes the to wiper switch. and is fused through the wipers in the fuse block. it might even say wiper/radio on the fuse block.

With your stock radio out... there should already be a hot feed that went to it.
If memory serves me right, there should be a female plug hanging near where the stock radio would be.
Regarding the CD player... did you try it out before installing it to see if it was working properly?
That might have been the reason yer friend gave it way...
