Post by FordTruck »

I just bought a new wiring harness for my 70 becuase I messed it up bad! But anyways my 70 harness and the new one has Yellow,Purple,Green-Black,Red-Blue,And A Redish Pink Wire. But My New Harness Has A Red-Green And My 70 Has A Light Blue What Do They Do? Should I Just Join Them Or Leave Them Un-Hooked?

harnesses can be for many trucks. atleast four different ones i would think. there would be with and without guages and automatic vs standard. that is 4. what harness didi you have before and what harness do you have now? your truck had auto and guages ? and the parts truck had? that sounds like a truck with standar trans and guages. i have a switch cut off here htat has the same colors. it came out of a 69.

The truck I took it out of was I believe an automatic with gauges and its eitheer a 70,71,72 I can't tel because no grille shell at all but I found 70 grille inserts behind the seat. And the truck it's going into is a 70 auto without gauges. I took all the wiring out of the junkyard and also the instrument cluster. I'm planning on just taking my hole harness out and putting this one in place of it. Also the junkyard truck had air.

there should be a small wrap of paper near the largest part of the harness with a part number on it. if you can tell me that number and i can look at my harnesses and tell you whats what on it. they are uncut.

I looked for a part number but there isn't any I guess the rats or something in the junkyard must have got to it.

Automatic and standard trans used the same wiring harness. The only differnces in main harness' are guages versus non guages, A/C or Non A/C, engine size, and whether or not it had overdrive. There are 9 different harness' for a 1970 but otherwise identical trucks with a stick or an automatic use the same harness. Hawkrod

the reason i was saying that is because of the three on a tree wire length to the bottom of the column to hook up the backup light switch. i would guess that the np435 would have the same kind of deal going on with it too. since the np435 backup light switch is suppose to be on the transmission.

fordtruck as far as the wires. check the wiring diagrams. you will need the complete cab and front clip wiring to get a matching set that works without having to cut and splice.

The backup switch wiring is a seperate part that plugs into a small plug on the inner fender where the main harness comes out. All trucks have the plug there. The stick shift trucks all have a plug under the dash for a neutral safety switch too, that is how they make them fit stick or automatic. Hawkrod

I joined all the matching colors today and in the morning I'll take a picture of the last two I'm un shure about. I'm shure the truck the harness came out of is auot because it had the plug for my neutral saftey switch.

A stick shift truck also has a plug for the neutral safety switch as I noted so there is no way to know if the harnes came from a stick ofr an auto. Look under the hood, you will also find a plug for a stick shift back up switch on the drivers inner fender. They have that too even in anautomatic truck. The only exceptions are OD trucks and cetain engine sizes. Hawkrod

Here's The Two Wires. One Comes Off The Big Yellow Wire And The Other Comes Off Of The Big Black With Green Stripe.
