Started on my gauges

Post by papabug71 »

Well, since santa is running late this year I decided to get started on my gauges in advance. I'll have to wait for the new bezel, as mine is stuck in a shipping depot in BFE...... :pout:

When we redid the truck in 94 we didnt do much with the cab, just lifted it off painted the underside & the frame & sat it back down. This is the first time the cluster has been out of the truck. Still sportin' original lighbulbs!! I also removed the switches & the chrome rings for cleaning & polishing. After, I plan on wet sanding the dash with some 2000 grit paper to remove some of the yuck from the original paint. Here is the progress so far!!

Cluster & switches out. The cluster was a breeze & took about 5 min. to remove. The switches, not so quick...

You know, I was the same way. But just take your time & pretend your dis-mantling a bomb. Thats what I do.

It came apart easy. No big deal at all. I did the cluster on my 70 Plymouth Duster as well. Unlike the Ford, all the parts are hard to find. I had 3 clusters & made one good one out of them. The bezel is not reproduced by anyone, so I had to cough up the cash for a NOS one on ebay....... :pout:

I have taken a couple of them apart myself. DO NOT use anything wet or moist to wipe off the face of the gauges, unless you want to start clean and paint your own numbers on lol

I might give it a shot someday but its not top on the list.

Ain't that like a slopar  no repoparts and hard to work on. I've witnessed all of that first hand with my brother he's got a 68 Plymouth Sport Fury III,69 Dodge Dart, and a 56 Plymouth Savoy and he just recentally got that Fury running to where it will move under its own power. The Dart we put a 360 in it and it needs the front and rear suspension re done and the Savoy where doing floors and rockers and maby install a Sb. But I like helping him work because I get to tell Dodge jokes

That turned out nice. As a side note, the fourescent pavemant marker paint works great for renewing the needle... Just spray it into a can and use a Q-tip or fine brush to repaint them.
