Flip DOWN DVD Player???

Post by dantheman71 »

I would like to put a DVD player into my truck. I have bought the Volvo kit and would like to get a DVD player to fit with a 6-7" screen. The problem is everything that I have found on the market comes out of the dash and flips up. This is no good for me because it will hit the dash pad and be useless. I am looking for something that comes out of the dash and flips down so that the only issue is it will cover the heat controls (at least the screen will be watchable).

Anyway, if anyone knows of any company that makes such a thing I would appreciate your help.

Thanks

I think maybe if I just fill the dash holes, paint the dash and scrap the dash pad I might get away with one with an adjustable screen angle. Or just learn to drive upside down.....

Wont a double din navi unit fit in our bumps??? The space seems more than adequate for a pioneer navigation, that was a thought for me and my bump, just curious???

You may want to check with your DMV to be sure that it's legal to have a DVD player mounted in such a way as to be visible to the driver.
I do know it's against the law in big rigs.

Pretty sure a double DIN will go to high and you would have to cut the dash pad, but maybe I should double check. I am sure it is illegal to have it visible to the driver, but hopefully I won't get caught!!

You can have it there, just not driving when it is on. If they pull you over, just make sure they know it is for navigation and sterio controls. Lots of new cars have them there.

You could cut the dash and switch the heater controls to the top and move the DVD to the bottom. Then it might work. You would have to check to make sure the screen sticks out far enough and that the veiwing angle is right.

Couldn't you mount the screen to the headliner brace like in vans and mount the head unit in the stock location...
Personally, I think that would be the best way to do it... Nothing gets cut or damaged that way...

I was hoping to stay away from putting it on the headliner, the only reason is I think it would be way too close to be watchable. A little bit hard on the eyes!

I think I will reinstall the dash pad and measure how much room I actually have and go from there. Right now my interior is completely gutted.

The only company I know of who has ever made such a thing is Kenwood. The last time I remember seeing one is probably close to five years ago. It had been discontinued then for a while. You could get a rear view mirror that doubles as a screen and an am/fm cd player that plays dvds as well for the dash.

I finally found one!!! I love Ebay!! It is made by Power Accoustic and you can get an 8" screen. The only bad part is the screen doesn't retract inside the deck like most of the flip up style do. The problem is my heater controls won't be easy to get at but I don't care because the truck doesn't have AC and it will only be driven on nice days so who needs heat when you have movies. :hd:
