big hump or small??

Guys, im going to order a new rubber floor mat within the next couple of days. All the parts mags I have (mac's & NPD) say I need the high hump floor mat for a 3 speed truck. I thought the 3 speed trucks used the low hump mats like the C4/ ford-o-matic trucks used. Macs & NPD both say I need the tall hump. I cant find my DC mag right now, as I think the 3 year old hid it.........

My truck is a 3 speed truck & I could have sworn it used the low hump mat. Or am I loosing my mind??

Do I need the tall hump or the low hump mat?

Is yer tunnel hump removable? If so, it's a tall one.

Hmmm. I havent pulled the old one yet. Looks like I just found myself a midnite project for tonight!

Im going to have to pull it anyways, might as well do it while im waiting on my bezel to get here.

you don't have to pull the carpet or mat to check. just look under the cab to see if there are bolts sticking through the floor for the removable hump. if you see bolts then you will know it is removeable. it the floor and hump are all one piece then the hub is nonremoveable.

It's always better to check before ordering anyway, since you have no idea of any work that's been done by a previous owner. But just for the record, all 3-spd trucks came with the low-hump...no removable cover.

Well, I went aead & pulled the bench & the old mat since I plan on ordering a new mat anyhow. & sure enough, its non removable. So I need the low hump.

I was not too happy with all the rust hiding under the old mat however. As a matter of fact im sick at my stomach over it.......

I have alot of metal work to do........A LOT..............

How the crap do these things rust out so bad?? This truck hasnt seen rain since 93 or so....? Its going to need new floor pans on both sides.......

Its starting to remind me of my 70 duster, code named "The ruster".

Oh well, thats just one of the perks of owning a 38 year old truck.

if you think the floor pans are bad you should see the cab mounts and the rear cab supports. As well as the bottem of the rear cab panels
this was a couple cab mounts ive seen worse.... lots worse\
the floors rusted bas as well. The inner fenders and radiator supports rusted as well...
the drain holes were smaller and then dirt got in them and stuck and then plugged the hole and it just went down hill from there.

I can tell you why I think the floorpans rust bad, the wiper transmissions go right through the cowl and once they start to leak you nearly have to take the whole truck apart to get them unhooked and out and seal them. That's one nearly invisible water path. Antoher is the windshield gasket. And water can run a long ways to drop. Another way is the rubber mat itself, those did more to accelerate rust than anything. Between people washing the cab out (done it myself) and the humidity condensation underneath and the water/condensation not trying underneath, that is another way. I mention the windshield washer transmissions because I had to wait until nighttime and use a flashlight to find those mystery leaks.

Errr, I glad I just need to do the floorpans & the drivers side cab mount. Everything else is ok, thank god.

Banjo, I know what you mean on the wiper seals. What a PITA. Its on my to do list, but its way down the line.

on all the trucks that i have parted out there has been cork gasket behind the wiper arm brackets that go through the firewall. i am thinking when i do my truck that i might silicone the cork to both the wiper brackets and the firewall both. i haven't made up my mind. mine havent leaked yet that i know of.

When I bought my OK truck the PO said no rust and its all been professionally fixed I had broken cab mounts and I don't know what it is about Oklahoma but my trucks floor was really shot when I pulled the rubber mat.

First off guys I am sorry to see all the rust on your trucks,but it makes me happy knowing someone elses is rustier than mine(just kidding), it sucks most Ive owned and looked at had rusted out floor pans ,even west Tx trucks.At least there are some replacement parts available now,we used to cut up dent sides back in the day.Good luck with the rust repairs.

My truck was originally an automatic and someone converted it to a 4 speed manual. When they did, they butchered a hole in the floor and covered it with a piece of aluminum. Eleven years ago, my dad and I hacksawed the metal around the hump out and took the hump too. As we did with the other floor panels, we pop riveted and screwed the metal in. It wasn't the right way, but it worked pretty good. We bondo'ed around the gaps. I just pulled it off when I was dismantling the cab. Below is a picture of the hump before I pulled it off.

I took the easy route on fixing ming and just swapped the rusty cab for a non rusty Missouri cab.
