Engine stalled now no spark
I finally got my truck running and when I was backing out of the drive way it stalled out. I tried starting it to the point that the battery died. I checked for spark and there wasnt any. The wire to the positive pole of the coil has voltage when I turn the key on. I also checked the distributor and there is power. I changed the points and condensor with new parts I had laying around. I also had a new coil and put that on. No change. The only thing I can think of is the points got out of adjustment when I was messing with it before. Did I miss something?

Re: Engine stalled now no spark
the one thing that always bugs me abotu changing points and condensor is that little screw to ground the condensor down to the plates. it has to be clean to get a good ground. so you have spark where? can you crank it with the cap off and see a spark between the points? if not then there is something worng with the installation. if you have spark there then check if you get spark to and from the cap. then if you get spark to the plugs through the wires.

I dont have spark anywere. The truck ran and then stalled, now nothing. I will check tomorrow for spark with the cap off. I changed the points and condensor just for the heck of it after it stalled, the ones I removed were fine as far as I know.

When you turn your key to START the solenoid takes over with the power to the coil, temporarily, until you release the key to the RUN position (if the solenoid has the S (start) and the I (ignition) posts on it.
If you turn the key to ON and CROSS the solenoid with a screwdriver (if you know how to safely do this) will the truck start?
I found my 1968 had a splice in both coil harness wires, positive and negative. I would drive down the road and all of a sudden the truck would lose power and shut down. I found the sorry splices and rolled them in my fingers, with the tape still over the splices. The truck started and ran fine for weeks. The truck did this again a few more times before I decided to solder the connections to make the connections solid connections.
If both sets of points are good check the wiring. I have seen a coil work when it was connected backwards but remember, the + side comes from the firewall of the truck and the - end goes to the distributor.
I have a 1968 F100 parts truck here that has a bad ignition switch in it. When I went to look at the truck the switch was keeping the truck from getting spark at the coil.
